Never the same

The mall is filled with people as I slowly make my way around. Not really caring where my feet lead me. I've been here countless times before and even though I don't really like crowds I like it.

"Excuse me… I know it sounds strange… but… I think I'm lost!" the voice sounds familiar so I turn while turning off my MP3. In front of me is a young man in his early twenties. With short dark hair, light blue eyes and wearing the strangest clothes I've ever seen. Then I realize who he is. Tom A'dale! What on earth is he doing here? Not only has he been thrown about 800 years into the future, he has also managed to land in another country.

"I think so too!"

"Oh… thank goodness you don't speak that strange language!"

What strange language? Oh of course!

"But I do! Besides, it's not strange! It's called Danish! This country is called Denmark! The town Aarhus and this place is called Bruun's gallery! My name's Anne by the way!"

"Tom!"

"Yeah… I know… hard to explain… look! We got to get you back! How did you end up here?"

He quickly explains and together we leave the mall and go through the railway station. Outside I just managed to stop him before he runs over for bright red. Hoping no one noticed.

"The red light means you have to stop! See, now it turns to green. Then we can go!"

We cross and continue down the stretch, at one time I have to stop him before his thieving nature gets the better of him but finally we reach the other end where the Cathedral stands.

"Is it this one?"

"Yes!"

"Then come on!" I smile and walk towards the heavy doors. Clearly not used to just walking into a church he stops.

"Are you sure?"

"Well… you said you came here somehow in there… so I suppose you have to go in there to get back! Come on! I've been there countless times!"

I walk over and push the door open. Inside he quickly leads me up the ship and into one of the smaller side chapels. I've always found it to be strange. Empty. Nothing in it. But something is not as usual, a light glows from the rough alter. Taking a deep breath he steps forward.

"Wait!"

"What?"

"No… nothing! Just… be careful!" I know it's in vain. Know what's going to happen! But he can't know! The story must go on! He takes the last step and is gone. I leave the church and walk home. Knowing that watching a special, always touching scene. From now on is never the same!
