I Forgot Where We Were

"This isn't going to work, it it?"

Scorpius turned his head sharply to the red-headed girl tucked under his arm. Her large eyes were focused intently on the ceiling, but really they were somewhere else entirely. Somewhere lost, floating in the depths of space and time. She remained like that for some time and he watched the soft rise of her chest as she breathed in and out.

Her eyes closed suddenly, eyelashes fluttering lightly against her porcelain cheek, her staggered breaths making Scorpius feel unsettled.

"What did you mean? Earlier?"

She turned to him then, her blue eyes searching for something in his that she couldn't seem to find. A sad smile was painted on her face and slowly her fingertips grazed his cheek in an affectionate manner before she simply let her hand cup his face. Her eyes flittered down to the messy white covers before she spoke, her voice hoarse and broken.

"We were deluded, Scorp. We pretended that this could actually work. The summer was just all child's play, and Merlin knows that it was the best summer of my life. I felt alive Scorp, just lying here under these sheets with you, with the sun beating down on our faces, pretending this could be infinite. But it can't be, it won't ever be infinite. We were only meant to be fleeting strangers, never anything more, never anything remotely this deep. This was perfect Scorp, we were the problem."

She met his eyes again and the silence in the air was deafening.

"Goodbye Scorpius."

His eyebrows furrowed but he nodded nevertheless.

"Goodbye Rose."

She rose and just like that he watched everything he had ever wanted in a person walk out of the door without a word to stop her.

Extremely loosely based on the song 'I Forgot Where We Were' by Ben Howard. I've been wanting to Scorpius/Rose piece for months now and I'm still not sure how I feel about this but I hope you like it anyway. Please review and favourite if you enjoyed! xo
