He knew pain. Well, so did she. He didn't know why she was in pain, and she didn't know his. What is pain, and what causes it? How many forms are there? She'd already figured out that there are a few different ways to classify a scream. Why not classify pain too? But his pain caused her, and she caused his pain.

He first felt physical pain when an older kid at the orphanage smacked him around. It was unbearable, at the time. He vowed that he would never be physically hurt again. And he wasn't, but he found out later why.
She didn't know what physical pain really was. As a child when you get smacked on the behind for doing something bad, it hurts then, but when you look back on it, it didn't hurt physically. It hurt emotionally because someone who you trusted hurt you.
You learn not to trust.

He closed into himself and never let anyone in. He was lonely, and he hurt because of it. He hurt because of his own actions. He always let what his house wanted interfere with what he really wanted. He wanted open discussions, but he still wanted to be feared, so there he sat in his armchair watching as two sets of lovers fought with each other. How charming.
She opened herself too much. Her venerability made people take advantage of her. She learned very quickly to put herself first. Well, almost. There was always that one person that she put before herself. And she came to realize that he was always first. She just never realized it until she was with him at her age. It doesn't make any sense, and she knows it.

He had vowed not to be physically hurt again, and yet, here he was with a sprained wrist because she fell on him. Why does she know where she's going if she's new?
She now knew what physical pain was for the first time. Her hip hit the stone wrong and it hurt her so bad she didn't know how she was walking.

She realized that there is more than one kind of way to feel physical pain. But only she knew the pain of being taken. He wouldn't know that pain. But then again, he seemed to feel everything she felt. How was that possible? He was over fifty years older than her. But not in this time of course. That makes all the difference.

They loved each other, but it wasn't meant to last. They got married, well they were supposed to.
They had two kids: one boy and one girl.
But it didn't last. She couldn't stay. She had no choice in the matter. She knew the pain of losing her children and he knew the pain of losing a lover. He didn't want to go through that again, and so he rejected her.
And when she took her life, she felt no pain physically.
For him though, he lost his lover for a second time, even if it was his fault this time around. He let Harry kill him. He knew he shouldn't after all the work he put into where he was, but he just couldn't do it. Not when he knew the truth.
So he died that day as well.
