An idea that came to me at about two in the morning during a thunderstorm. Anyway, enjoy…
Things were going on as usual in Forks. That was the nice way of saying that it was raining buckets. I wish I was exaggerating when I say that it was pouring outside. The lightning was beautiful and blinding at the same time. The thunder was deafening. I was soaking wet.
I was running towards Bella and Edward's cottage as fast as possible in my wolf form. I knew that Nessie was terrified of thunderstorms, and that I had to get there quick. Don't get me wrong, Bells and Edward could handle any emergency better than I could in a zillion years, but I still wanted to be there for my girl.
As soon as I saw the house everything became a blur. By the time I was halfway to Ness's room I didn't even remember morphing or throwing my clothes back on. I pretty much broke down the door in my rush to get inside.
There, sitting on the bed, sat Bella cradling little Renesmee as Edward tried to sing her to sleep. A sheer look of relief washed over Bella's face as she saw me walk into the room. Even Edward managed to smile his crooked half smile as I bent down to gather Nessie into my arms.
Tears stained her beautiful porcelain face, and her eyes widened in fear as another boom of thunder echoed through the sky. I pulled her close as she buried her face into my neck. I rubbed her tiny back as I bounced up and down trying to sooth her.
"Jake, thank goodness," Bella whispered, too quietly for Ness to hear, "She wouldn't calm down no matter what we tried."
Edward nodded, "Jasper even came down to try and calm her, but she just made him feel jumpy so Alice had to take him home."
"It's all in a day's work," I said, grinning slightly. I looked down at the little angel, she had already fallen asleep. I had worked my magic.
As I started running back towards La Push I heard Bella say, "What would we do without him?"
"I don't know," Edward said in reply, "But I don't think we'll have to worry about that."
"You're right," Bella said, I could almost hear the smile in her voice, "He'll always be around, won't he?"
Edward just chuckled and then all was silent.
Yeah, don't you worry, I thought, I'll always be around.
And I continued home through the pouring rain, finally content with life.
So, good, bad? I just needed to write that… Reviews make me happy!
