The young black Puffle settled in the corner stared as his fellow Puffles played around the Pet Shop playing and squeaking their language that only they can hear.

Looking around he sighed as another one was picked by those penguins. The white puffle beside him sleeping soundly in his bed was woken by the flipped that gently picked it up from inside. He heard him squeal in delight as the penguin signed a form and paying the needed coins before they both waddled off and out of the pet shop.

'It's always like this.'he thought moving to take the newly abandoned bed. 'They take the cute ones and forget the others who might need attention.'He watched sadly as yet another one was picked up.

Chipman27 (if you've seen me on Club Penguin, then that's awesome.) Chip for short, a red penguin dressed in a dark blue police officer uniform complete with tie and badge with gloves walked into the Pet Shop little red puffle Jake wearing green head phones in toe. He waddled over to the cashier and requested his puffles favourite food. Stinky cheese. Jake seemed thrilled and nuzzled into him as he bought the stinky yet quite tasty snack.

He turned around and waddled towards the door, when he saw the black puffle sitting in the corner looking quite thoughtful. He began to waddle towards the area where the puffles were kept keeping the puffles inside. The others began to jump up and down trying to get his attention, but the black puffle still sat contempt, as if meditating.

'He looks so... sad. Why do I feel like I must make him happy?' With a new found determination, Chip proudly asked his puffle "So what do you think Jake? Is he good enough to take home?"

'(Sigh) Well there goes another one. When will I be taken home for once?' Jake gave a very elaborate nod of his head, which in general is practically nodding his whole body.

Chip waddled back to the cashier leaving Jake to talk to them. He hopped towards the black puffle and gently nudged him. "Hey." he squeaked out in that little puffle language.

The black puffle looked around. "Are you talking... to me." Jake smiled. "Sure! You're my new bro after all." "New... what are you talking about?" "Well we are taking you home after all." The little guy's mouth hung open. He stared at Jake then at his owner then back at Jake. "Why are you so surprised? You don't want to come with us?" A brown puffle came up beside Jake. "Give him time. He's been here longer than all of us. He sits here watching penguins carry other puffles and just dreams of getting owned as well. I guess the shock of it finally happening is just too much for him so his in a state of shock. Isn't that right black?"

Black as he was known shook himself out of his stupor as the other puffles gathered around them squeaking words of congratulations.

Chip came back holding a certificate of ownership and as black squinted his eyes he could make out his new name as 'Alex.' 'Alex, I like the sound of that.' Chip reached in and pulled 'Alex' out of the corner pulling him into a tight hug which he was very uncomfortable with. "Are ya ready to go home little fellah?" To be honest, he didn't know himself. He gave a reluctant nod of his head.

Attaching a leash on him they began their walk to the door. "You're gonna love our igloo. It's a little small, and doesn't have much furniture, but it's cosy and comfortable." Chip said to the excited puffle. Alex turned around and looked at his friends who were all smiling at him. A yellow puffle raised a painting with a thumbs up on it.

The doors opened and Alex was led out of the Pet Shop and onto the everlasting snow that rested on the island. And he smiled. For the first time in a long time he smiled. A large smile that some would only see on someone who was truly content.

He was free at last, and it felt great!
