I chuckled as I snuck quietly into the house. They weren't expecting a thing. Through the house and to their vault I crept quietly. The combination was easy to crack, and after just a quick moment, I was in. I tip-toed into the vault, not paying any mind to the door of the vault. It swung slowly closed behind me, and slammed with an almighty clang. I flinched, hoping and praying it wouldn't wake them. I knew I was stuck, too. It was an auto-lock door.
But I heard the feet rushing, the guards yelling that no one could've gotten past them. I looked wildly around and almost cursed aloud when I realized the only air duct big enough for me to crawl through was at the very top of the vault. I snatched the tiara I was there for before beginning my arduous climb to the top of the vault. The door slowly opened below me, and I barely made it into the vent before they walked in.
I had gotten out of the vault, but now I was stuck in the air ducts.
"It shouldn't have shut, we left it open tonight." One of the owners said.
"It's not like anyone really could've gotten in here." His wife said, "Prop that door open this time!" She snapped.
I slowly climbed down and out again, creeping behind them and waiting for them to get out of the area before making a run for it. The tiara clanged noisily in my bag, but I was past caring. I was not getting stuck anywhere else in that house. Eventually I made it out again and to Carmelita's police cruiser.
"You okay, Ringtail?" She asked.
"Yeah, got stuck in their vault for a few minutes, but the lady of the house demanded that the guards prop it open. Apparently it was supposed to be open anyway."
She chuckled. "Did you get the tiara?"
"Yep." I held it up.
"Good. We could get plenty of money out of that..."
"I'm glad you've finally started seeing things my way, Inspector. Things would've been so much easier if you would have from the start."
She rolled her eyes at me, "Yeah, well, desperate times and all that."
A/N: Here's my prompt from Rayne Falcon-Punches Hanson. I'm pretty sure this isn't exactly what you had in mind but... oh well. You didn't tell me to write a novel about it!
