Disclaimer: I don't own anything. It'd be too troublesome :D
Category: Naruto
Peeplez: Neji and Naruto. Somehow Iruka (sort of, well, not really, but wtv).
Warnings: extreme fluff, WAFF (Warm And Fuzzy Feeling), cuteness, five-and-four-year-olds, byakugan-ing, assumed mind-reading, yaoi, complete (possibly annoying) overuse of bold and italics, and cat impressions.
Summary: It still makes me nervous, seeing him, not being able to touch him, to not know if he sees me…. NaruNeji, yaoi, Oneshot Part of Project CHON.
A/N:
Yes, this is supposed to be yaoi. Sort of.
No, it's not realistic at all.
It's just something I pulled out of a proverbial hat, one extremely boring day… And another day after that.
Yeah.
Enjoy!
Some Fantastic (Ivory and Ivory)
Upon occasion, it occurred to Naruto that while Neji could see inside his bones, he still couldn't read his mind.
Regardless of this, he avoided thinking anything at all when the Hyuuga was around, with a religious fervor, let alone anything about how he liked him, how he thought of him really often, how he remembered so clearly the first time they had met…
It was a cold day, at his first impression, and he was shivering. He had been living on the streets then, and it was his worst fear that someone would laugh at him, which, unfairly, happened at least a few times a day.
Naruto's only source of comfort was a little field in the middle of town, where he could go and be warm (this later became Shikamaru's second favorite place for cloud-watching) and sometimes find some food. That day, however, it was closed for something ("cuh-lows-id for re-seed-ing… reseeding?") and he had plopped himself down on the pavement right next to the sign. Little Neji had come stumbling down the road from the Hyuuga compound, nursing a broken left arm and rubbing his aching head, moaning quietly, and leaned heavily on the sign to Naruto's right. Neji had closed his eyes and slid down to sit on the pavement beside Naruto.
To his apparent astonishment, Naruto (who he had thought was a bundle of dirty rags) uncurled himself and blinked sleepily at the Hyuuga. He watched, frozen, as Naruto had crawled over to him and sat on his legs, then leaned forward, rubbing his cheek against the other's as a cat might, humming happily.
Neither one knew what, exactly, had happened after that, but Neji had ended up on top of Naruto, pinning him down, wild-eyed in anger and confusion. The blue-eyed child had chirped out an apology, starting to cry, and Neji's eyes had softened. He may not properly have understood what was happening to the blond at the moment, but he felt sorry for scaring him. He'd leaned down until he was next to Naruto's ear and whispered, "Don't apologize for something that's not your fault, hmm?" And he planted a gentle kiss in the middle of Naruto's forehead. Then he stood up carefully and limped away.
Naruto had waited there every day for the next three days, but he hadn't seen Neji again, and didn't for several years up until he entered the academy. But when he did, the darker-haired boy remembered him, strangely enough. Naruto had waited until they were alone, when he smiled timidly and hugged Neji, shaking with nerves.
And Neji had hugged him back, holding him for a minute or two, perfectly silent, while Naruto tried not to cry, burying his face in the front of the taller boy's shirt.
He'd never admit it, but he'd smiled back every time the blonde grinned at him, for the longest time.
Even though most people thought he never smiled.
