The moment he saw his father flying proudly atop his kinshi, he immediately decided he wanted to be like him. Seeing his mother mounted on her dark falcon next to him, made Kiragi only want to join them, up there, in the skies.
Flying free.
But it wasn't just mom and dad. Auntie Reina had a kinshi too, Uncle Subaki had a pegasus, and Auntie Camilla and Auntie Beruka had wyverns. Half of the invasion of his Deepralm was spent staring at the giant figures flying high above his head. The other half he sat behind his dad and sniped whatever was coming towards them.
When he told his mother, she playfully stuck her tongue out at him and winked: "Maybe one day, the faster you get better at archery, the sooner you'll have your own kinshi! Now, where were we? Ah yes, the Nohrian monarchy..."
He promptly grumbled.
Once, his father let him sit behind him as he trained with his kinshi. The feeling of flying was exilarating: the thrill of knowing he had nothing under nor above him, the wind that slapped his cheeks and stung his eyes, the dizzy spell that came after a loop-de-loop...
He left wobbling on his feet, but the smile on his face was everything but wobbly.
Three weeks later he came home from hunting, with the biggest boar he had caught yet slung over his shoulder, to find his parents outside their tent smiling at each other. When they saw him, their smiles widened and Takumi motioned him over with his hand.
Confused, he followed them as they circled the tent. When he saw what was waiting him, he dropped the boar like it meant nothing, his mouth opening and closing like the one of a fish out of water.
A kinshi.
Still unable to say a word, he turned to his parents, as if searching for an answer. Takumi just crossed his arms and smiled softly, while Elise nodded happily, her blonde pigtails bouncing as she did.
His still-open mouth twitched upwards and he burst out laughing, launching himself at his parents in the process and squeezing them in most tight hug he could muster.
He was going to be like them.
He was going to fly.

This is what happens when you play FE Fates for too long in one sitting. Shout-out to my Dark Falcon! Elise that seems to enjoy letting me experience heart attacks way too often. If it wasn't for Kinshi Knight! Takumi that most of the times blocks the arrows, she would have been dead. Two things:
One, Kinshi Knight! Takumi is a prideful smug bastard, just look at him before he uses a bow on that kinshi!
Two, I headcanon that all the children consider the first generation their Uncles and Aunties, so no, Subaki is not married to Sakura, he is married to Selena in my file tho.
