Here you are, the first of many Tapestry fics! And, of course, the first of many to feature Cooper, because he's a Cockney ninja. This fic takes place in Second Siege, right before they leave Spain and Lorca *spoiler* dies. I read the line quoted below, and had to write the scene it implied. Cooper may seem a bit OOC, but Lorca's about to die, for Bram's sake. I hope you enjoy it!
Last Words
"Ask María to open it while I have a word with William."
Once Max had left the room, Cooper turned away to examine a shelf of ancient books.
"William," said Lorca softly. "I have lived a long time on this earth, longer than any man should, and now is my time to leave it."
When Cooper spoke, his voice was near trembling.
"I don't want you to go." A line for a little boy, he couldn't believe he'd uttered it, but his heart was speaking now and there was nothing he could do to silence it.
Sr. Lorca crossed the room and put a wrinkled hand on Cooper's shoulder. "After I found you on the Isle of Man, not even the healers thought you would live. Do you know what I told them?" Cooper shook his head. "I told them, 'William has enormous talent and a noble heart. He is meant to accomplish great things on this earth. He will live."
Lorca gently turned Cooper to face him. The younger Agent's blue eyes were wet, as though the ice that was usually hardened inside them had melted. Cooper swiped away a tear, angry at himself for breaking, but Lorca caught his hand as it came back down.
"There is no reason to deny sorrow, William. Without emotion, the world would be a bleak place indeed. I –" He paused, holding up a finger. They both heard the footsteps and laughter outside in the street, nearing the bookstore.
"They are here," Lorca whispered. He looked Cooper in the eye. "William, you have been a true brother to me in the Red Branch, and I can only hope I have been the same to you."
Cooper shook his head. "No. You have been more than a brother to me. You are my father."
Lorca's eyes shone with tears as Cooper hugged him tightly. The old Spaniard returned the embrace, and the two separated as heavy pounding began on the bookshop's door.
"Vaya con Dios, Mijo," Lorca whispered. "Go save the world." The door burst open as he gave Cooper a gentle push towards the door that led back to the house. Though all his training had instructed him never to do such a thing, Cooper paused at the threshold and looked back to see Antonio de Lorca bowled over by a swarm of children. And then, wiping his eyes a final time, he hurried through the door into the kitchen.
D'awwww, Cooooperrrr! Don't worry, Miss Boon will make it better. Until that idiot vye interrupts the train scene. I hate that vye.
Have a marvelous day!
