'Pregnant'

She was shaking.

This couldn't be happening. Not when all the chaos in her life had finally settled. If this was true… she would never be rid of him. She got dizzy at the thought.

Patrick grabbed her hand, gave it a comforting squeeze. She knew having a child wouldn't be bad, not even when the father would be at the other end of the country… okay, it would be bad. She could also not not let him know, if the test turned out positive. She would never be able to live with herself if she did that.

"It's not the end of the world," he whispered. They both knew that to be true, but it was too close to the end they most likely wouldn't survive it – their relationship at the very least.

She took in a deep breath and raised the long white stick. His hand closed around hers in a painful grip, but she couldn't make him let it go.

She couldn't look at it, instead lowered her hand with the stick and looked at him.

"Patrick..."

"It's okay, Teresa."

It's not. Yet she had to raise her hand, had to know the truth. She was shaking so much she couldn't read what the stick said, making her sigh in frustration. His gentle hand steadied her arm, and they looked at the stick in unison.

Not pregnant.

They were both silent for a lot of minutes, until she felt his hand in her neck, which was shaking just as much as her hands were.

"You're not pregnant," he whispered close to her ear, and she couldn't help the smile from spreading on her lips.

"I'm not pregnant," she confirmed. Their eyes met.

She had never in her whole life thought that she would be happy with a negative pregnancy test. But then she hadn't met Patrick Jane yet, and all the chaos that follows him.

Thankfully, they could now focus on their beautiful life together and leave DC be.
