Too late
"Leave me" he begged but she refused.
"I won't leave you, I can't."
"You must" he tried again.
"NO!" she cried. Gun shots flew through the air as she pressed the blooded rag to his side, but it barely staunched the flow as the red liquid continued to ooze around it.
His demands grew weaker "go".
"No" she stated "helps coming you just have to hold on a little longer it'll be ok." But even as she said the words she saw his eyes begin to flicker.
"It's too late" he gasped so gently she barely heard him.
"Please" he whispered a desperate note in his voice as his eyes fell shut for the last time.
"NO" she cried holding him tighter but she knew it was over. The gunshots were getting closer now but still she remained hugging his lifeless body tears mixing with blood as they fell upon him.
"I love you" she cried but it was unanswered; she began rocking him gently.
"Don't go" she whimpered "don't go" repeating the words over and over as if they would bring him back to her.
The shots were almost on top of her now but she no longer cared anymore. Then they were gone and silence assaulted her ears.
She felt someone dragging her away but she didn't resist. She heard her name called but it was like a distant echo to which she couldn't respond.
"Is she hit?" she heard another voice.
"No" yet another voice answered then began to call her name too.
She realised these voices were familiar her friends had come at last and taken her home; but it was just a little to late for both of them.
The end
