SCHOOL DAYS
Premise: In an alternate universe, everyone enjoys a simple life at school
Everyone in the classroom was focusing on the latest exercise Ms. Tee had assigned just five minutes before. Everyone except the usual suspects, or rather than plural, it was the usual suspect, feisty redhead Catherine Weaver bothering her best friend.
"What do you think about my new nails Cami?" She asked raising her hand close to the other girl's face.
Without even looking at her, Cameron answered in a diminute whisper. "They're gaudy."
"You're not even looking! How do you even know?" Catherine snapped.
"It's your style; you think it's better for getting boys."
"And it isn't?"
"Well," Cameron rolled her eyes, "you already laid waste to the whole football team, so what do you need more boys for? Just keep one of the players."
"Are you out of your mind?" Catherine hissed. "By the end I was so bored, I could've take a nap while being with one of them. It was like doing the same guy 20 times!"
"Maybe that's because they are." Cameron replied and a small smirk crept into her face, which Catherine failed to notice. Her attention was already elsewhere. Cameron rolled her eyes again, frustrated, and then focused them on her assignment. All the while trying to remember if ADD was in the list-of-known-bugs for the T-1001 model.
"You got a point there," Catherine replied coolly, lying back on her chair and staring at her hand held high up. "So, what do you think of my new nails?"
"Shorten them two millimeters, and dye them a less bright color that contrasts better with your skin." Cameron spat in a single breath.
"You may be right. Let's see."
Catherine was so absorbed with her own hands; she failed to notice Ms. Tee was already walking towards her.
"Miss Weaver."
"What?" Catherine asked in an annoyed tone. "Oh. Crap."
"Indeed miss Weaver," the teacher confirmed with a nonchalant smile, and grabbed both of Catherine's hands.
"I will deposit nanites in your nail structure, which will keep them neat and natural colored. Worthy of a young lady. Come to the faculty room at the end of the school day to have them removed."
"But…" Catherine tried to muster a response, but was cut off by the sight of her nails going back to a natural color and shortened to the edge of her fingers. She just looked to the teacher and back to her hands in awe. Ms. Tee had just hacked into her alloy to keep her in line. It was preposterous.
"Now get back to work," Ms. Tee commanded. "There isn't much more time left."
"Yes Ms. Tee Ex." Catherine whined making a pout, and went back to her exercise.
Right after Ms. Tee turned to go back to her desk, the tiniest of snorts came from Catherine's neighbor.
"Oh, so you laugh at your friend's misery. Not so shy and proper now, huh?" Catherine reproached at Cameron without taking her eyes off from her notebook.
