Brendon trudged through the rubble of what had been downtown Soho, staring at the vintage neon signs that lay broken and leaking. They had long ago lost their fluorescent colour, and now only portrayed syllables of old club names. A voice behind him called out.

"Brendon! We've got one, but he's close to death."

Brendon turned and saw the body of a middle aged man. He was wearing a name badge, probably from a bar nearby.

"Please, just let me go, I'm in such pain," he gasped.

Brendon looked up at his friend, who nodded in response before pointing his gun at the man and shooting one bullet straight through his skull. Brendon looked away, thinking how he would never be able to do that. He was strong to understand that it was for the best.

"We should go, Dallon." He muttered, still shaken by the untimely death of this man.

"The narwhals will clear up the body." Said Dallon grimly.

As they journeyed back to the hole, Brendon thought over the events of the past few years. The day the narwhals came. People screaming, children crying, and everybody running. The narwhals had finally learned to live out of water, and were slowly taking over the country, starting with the Thames. 28 year old Brendon and his friends, Brent, Ryan and Spencer were taken by a mysterious hooded figure to the underground camp, known simply as "The Hole". The figure had told them to call it "Ramen", and had not even revealed their gender.

"Welcome to project ET."

"ET?" Questioned Ryan.

"E-Trinity." came the reply, slightly muffled by the thick hood and voice changer. "We're working to eradicate the narwhals who've destroyed our city." It continued."The narwhals have somehow developed a serum that enables them to walk and breathe on land. Through various tests, we've discovered that the serum must be re-administered every 24 hours or so. No trace of the serum remained on or inside the body of the narwhal, and though we grilled it constantly on the ingredients, it would give no information." Ramen paused for a moment, as though it had given away too much. "Anyway, I shouldn't be telling you this without your consent to join the project. Should you choose to do this, you may not leave or tell others; you may not bring others into the project and you may not disobey any orders from me or anyone my senior."

Brendon opened his mouth to agree to this when Spencer stopped him.

"Hang on, why should we? what's in it for us? You've given us all this information and we could easily take this and run." said Spencer. The hood seemed unruffled, and simply replied:

"You could run, but you've no good weapons and you're running out of food fast. You've nowhere to stay and you're alone in a world of traitors. If you were to join us, we'd give you a place to stay, a gun, two good meals a day and a team surrounding you. You stand about thrice the chance of surviving with us rather than without. He paused, before saying quieter "You'll far rather being with us than against us."

There was a hint of menace in the last sentence, thought Brendon to himself, but no one else seemed to notice, and they all agreed to the terms. Since then, plenty of his friends had left, or been sent away, and now it was just him and Dallon

It was a deal that Brendon now agreed, had saved them.

Well, thats it for the first chapter (I wanted to keep it short), but I think this is going to be a long fanfic. I have a backstory about the narwhals, but it only really relates to this and not a specific fandom, so I'm not really sure. I'll upload the next chapter soon (like within a week) and since its the summer hols I can keep writing the rest for a while to come. Reviews are really welcome, as this is my first fanfic and I'm aware it's still pretty awful. Thanks for reading!
