"What are you doing tonight?" Jack asked, wrapping his arms around Ianto's waist as he was attempting accurately time the espresso.

"Well… you," Ianto said, wriggling out of Jack's arms.

"I meant aside from the obvious," Jack purred at Ianto's ear.

"No plans, Jack. Figured we'd see the New Year in Torchwood style. Running down weevils, hoping nothing too huge, dangerous, or just plain annoying drops in on Cardiff…."

"Yeah, sorry, but that sounds really boring. You should do something different to start a new year."

"Different?" Ianto said, pouring two cups. "What… are you proposing we go home and sleep like rocks for the next 12 hours?"

Jack rolled his eyes in a move obviously perfected from the last couple years in close quarters with Ianto Jones. "No, I'm proposing you, me, posh dinner, one or two potent potables, dancing, a little champagne before heading home to… what's it you like to say, 'start as we mean to go on'?"

Ianto couldn't help grinning as he poured a heavy measure of milk into Jack's cup. "That might just be lovely. Except, of course, if the world's ending…."

"The world's always ending," Jack said seductively. "What do you say? I've got a psychic paper in my coat pocket that will get us into the best places in town. And… I'd really like to have the hottest guy in Wales as my date."

"Then I reckon you'd better keep looking for him," Ianto said, handing Jack a mug.

Jack immediately set it aside and turned Ianto to face him. "Oh, look. There he is," Jack said, pulling Ianto into a kiss that brooked no argument.

"You win," Ianto said breathlessly.

"Result!" Jack crowed with a dazzling grin. "I brought your favorite suit when I ran out this afternoon. Let's get changed after coffee and beat it out of here."

"Jack?"

"Huh?"

"I've noticed from past years' logs that you do everything you can to keep out of here on New Years'. Not that it's exactly a challenge most years. I just… I understand why. It wasn't your fault, you know? And you've done incredible work here since. Just so you know."

Jack sighed and pulled Ianto close. "Thanks, Yan. You know, I'm really looking forward to the year ahead. They're usually all the same for me, but I think this one will be good."

"So do I, Jack," Ianto smiled.
