He'd kicked. He'd screamed. Kevin was resilient, more than most, but even he would soon collapse and become a cog in the machine of a happy, sunshine-y, lovely corporation built on the most powerful virtue of them all.

Hard work.

Blood is So red. Sunshine is Marvelously yellow. BruIses are blue. Cognitive dissonance is bLindingly bright. It's all you'll ever nEed. Simply a SMILE.

The Smiling God became the sun and the moon, day and night. He replaced all of our minds and quite literally torched our former ideas about the world. After the glorious, glorious day on which the Smiling God came to little ol' Desert Bluffs, we were all relieved of the burden of having and producing ideas.

The Smiling God burned away Kevin's eyes, leaving them charred, black, and empty. His smile was already so wide, so great, a smile to be admired. Twisted like a rotting oak, black like the light the Smiling God rained down upon Desert Bluffs.

Kevin wanted to fight back, but he couldn't stomach the fighting any longer. He just wanted to give in, to become what he feared most. Like a dream you can't quite remember, like a thought you can't seem to have anymore. He just wanted to become one with the wonderful Smiling God.

Well, not quite wanted, exactly. More like "hated the idea of", or "resented the very concept of". But that's aside the point. The point is that he became a happy, hardworking individual. He found his way through darkness and shadow into the blinding light coming from the Smiling God.

So yes, Kevin kicked. Kevin screamed. Kevin was resilient, more than most, but even he found his way to a wide, gaping smile.
