The night before Usagi had invited Umino out for the premiere of the new Sailor V movie. Of course, just beating the game wasn't enough for Usagi.
"The first 50 people get a promo Sailor V doll! How cool is that!" Usagi had said something like that.
"But Usagi, I'm not interested in Sailor V," was probably his response.
"WHAAAT! How can you not want a super awesome Sailor V doll? I guess I'll have to tell Naru it'll just be the two of us." He had recalled her emphasizing the word 'what' very loudly in his ear.
"N-N-Naru..." A field of daisies sprouted before him. From the other side of the field, Naru was running towards him with open arms in slow-mo. This he remembered vividly.
And so he tagged along. Did Naru personally ask Usagi to invite him? They had never invited him out before. Yes! That had to be it. Naru was surely much too shy to ask him out herself, so she finally asked Usagi for help.
The night had been a success! He had been a perfect gentleman and the occasion was everything a date for two entailed. He had forgotten Usagi's existence except for when she had jumped him for his Sailor V doll.
Fortune was on his side for he had just enough money saved up in the piggy bank to pay for two tickets, an extra-large tub of popcorn, and two drinks. Of course, his piggy bank wasn't so fortune with it lying on the ground in pieces and all.
He was now a man; a man proudly braving the streets and walking a difficult path. They say things change when you become a man. But a man his age still had to go to school. And there he was on the way to class, a donut in hand.
"Good morning, Umino." The voice from behind had startled him.
"N-N-Naru, I mean princess. Did you enjoy last night?"
Naru looked confused when he called her princess. "Sailor V was great! Did you see how she nailed those baddies? What did you think?"
"Mmm, it was romantic."
"Romantic?" Naru looked even more confused.
"You were so graceful walking in as I held the door for you... I couldn't help but-"
"Oh Umino, I had to hold the door! You had me carrying popcorn AND two drinks!"
"But-but, when the guy pays, it's a da-" He didn't manage to finish before he saw her outstretched arms. In the palm of her hands was money.
"Umino, you're so sweet, but I can't let you pay. Only my boyfriend can pay for me. Here. This is the money I owed you from last night. I was worried for a second when I left my wallet at home. You're the best. See you in class!" With that, she was off.
"It... It... Wasn't... A date?" The world came crashing down on Umino as he dropped to the ground.
