"What's the dog doing here?" Steve McGarrett asked his partner Danny Williams as he got into the car. He gestured to the German Shepherd lounging on the back seat.
"Bullet has a vet appointment. It was easier to bring him in then to go home and get it."
"Seems to me you said it was a bad idea when I brought Ninja in," Steve pointed out.
"That's because your stupid cat is completely untrained and can't be trusted not to wreak havoc, kind of like you, my Neanderthal friend. Bullet, on the other hand, is fully trained and will remain quietly in my office."
"If you say so," Steve said dubiously.
"I do say so. Now shut up and drive."
They were about halfway to the Palace when Steve's phone rang. "McGarrett."
"Steve, it's Chin. Our suspect barricaded himself in his house. We need you and Danny on scene immediately."
"We'll be there as soon as we can. I've got to take Danny's dog home first."
"Steve!" Danny said, "There's no time! We need to get there as soon as possible."
"Danny, I am not bringing a dog to a crime scene. He goes home."
Chin broke into their argument. "Danny's right. You'll have to bring the dog."
Danny smirked. "Told you so."
"Fine," Steve said. "But he stays in the car."
"No problem," Danny assured him.
From the backseat, Bullet woofed in agreement.
When Steve and Danny reached the scene, Danny rolled down the windows and turned to Bullet in the backseat. "Bullet, stay," he said firmly. The dog whimpered, but stayed put.
"Are you sure leaving the windows down is a good idea?" Steve asked.
"Steve! I can't leave them up! He'll overheat!"
"Well, just roll them down part way," Steve suggested.
"He'll be fine," Danny insisted.
"If you say so," Steve said doubtfully.
Chin came up to them. "We've got the front and back entrances covered, but he's got a gun."
"Any hostages?" Steve asked.
"Not that we're aware of," Chin replied.
Suddenly, the suspect appeared from around the corner, brandishing a gun at the assembled officers.
"Shit, he went out the window!" Someone exclaimed.
The suspect eluded the officers on the porch and made a beeline for where the members of Five-0 were standing. He barreled into Danny, knocking him over, but was on his feet and running before Chin or Steve could grab him.
Chin and Steve were poised to take off after the suspect, but they were beaten by a blur of fur that hurtled itself out of the Camaro's window as the suspect went by.
The suspect went down in a heap, a snarling German Shepherd on his back.
"Where'd he come from?" Steve asked.
"He was protecting me," Danny said. "Obviously, unlike your cat, he's actually useful on the job. Good boy, Bullet," Danny praised the dog.
"I thought he was supposed to stay in the car," Steve grumbled.
"He catches the suspect and you're complaining?" Danny asked incredulously.
"Whatever. Book 'em, Danno."
Danny and Steve had just returned to the Palace (after stopping at a butcher's for the bone Danny insisted Bullet deserved) when Steve's phone rang. "It's the governor," Steve said.
"He's probably calling to commend Bullet," Danny said smugly.
Steve glared at him as he answered the phone. "McGarrett. . .yes, there was a dog at the crime scene. . .yes, he apprehended the suspect. . .no, he's not a trained police dog. . .yes, maybe Five-0 should consider getting a police dog."
Danny smirked as Steve hung up. "Told you so."
"Just don't expect him to get a badge," Steve said.
