Family
Muskets crack and sword blades flash
Flags of red and white and blue
Families split and armies clash
An empire broken into two
Mother spills her tea and shouts
Wants her little boy to stay
Within her sight when he goes out
Lest war and blood take him away
Older brother wants to fight
He leaves the house with violent storm
But still he wears red, blue and white
Though he claims he won't conform
Younger brother, quiet, strong
Bullied by his counterpart
Retaliates, he knows it's wrong
His sibling broke his mother's heart
The brothers fought all through the night
One burnt the other's home
It was rebuilt and painted white
Then eldest left his kin alone
Days then passed, the younger left
Though he still loved his mother
But sometimes she'd ignore, bereft
The one without the other
Through war and famine eldest grew
To loud and brash young man
Scared and rude and reckless too
Though be good, well, he can
Younger brother grew up too
Sweet and soft and kind
His uniform had lost the blue
For love he'd always find
The brothers soon lived side by side
Though t'was never quite the same
As when they shared their mother's pride
When she their woods did tame
And all the world does love the younger
Though many hate the elder boy
Still through it all they have each other
They, different, bring each other joy
For though the two will always fight
Sometimes against the other
They are bound through red and white
That is what makes a brother
