THE JOURNAL OF A BEN-HASSRATH

They literally blew up this time! And I mean literally! Since the Chantry in Kirkwall exploded, thanks to crazy bas saarebas, all things are going to the void. Bas saarebas and their Basvaarads have equally fallen in madness. I heard that the city is covered in bloodshed. On one side, crazy templars are killing everyone suspected to be a spellcaster that crosses their path. On the other side, some equally mad wizards are burning or freezing everything that smells like a templar. The situation is so bad that that even Basalit-an Hawke couldn't handle it and the tamassrans of the Chantry have lost control!

I didn't know how bad things were until this morning. My Chargers and I helped some refugees that came from the city. They were scared to death when they saw me. So much so that one even peed when we made eye contact! Hah! I guess they still remember what happened when the last Arishok decided to take over the town. After Krem calmed them down, they told us what happened. It seems that the High Ranked Basvaarad, lost her mind after... I think the term that the Andrastians use for their priestess is Grand Cleric… well, after the Grand Cleric Elthina was killed in the Chantry's explotion.

From what I understood from the refugee, she accused the High Mage of the Circle of being involved in the murder and harbor of blood mages. Then Mederith attempted to kill every single mage in the city. What the refugee told me next, sounded like a tale someone might have spun after three pints of beer: Demons infesting The Gallows! A huge monster made with corpses attacking the templars! And the most unbelievable: Statues came to life!

It seems that she, Mederith, even tried to execute Basalit-an Hawke too! The refugee told me that the Basvaarad, turned herself in a statue! I don't know, this story sounds... like a bad dream. But something tells me that it is real. This guy has the fear in his eyes, as if he has been in the void and came back. His body language told me that he isn't lying. Among the things that he babbled, he mentioned something about red lyrium.

If I want to know more about all this mess, I should be a little patient, kind and sympathetic to earn their trust. I have time. The refugees begged us to escort them to Orlais's border where they have acquaintances that could give them shelter. They offered us some gold and valuables that they carried. Usually, our fees are really expensive, but I accepted the contract. I want to know what happened in Kirkwall. I feel in my gut, that this will be bigger than anyone can imagine. It seems that this little business in Nevarran will open a mine full of information to send to my contact of the Ben-Hassrath.
