Messily in Love
Everything about her life was prearranged. She had everything done according to plans and organization. Her life depended on her plans. She made lists and she stuck to them. She made plans and nothing ever got in the way of them. Plans were everything to her and how she got through each day. She needed her plans.
So when Casey McDonald found herself tangled up with Derek Venturi-both literally and figuratively-she was revolted. She hated herself. She wanted to crawl out of her skin. She wanted to be the Casey she had been before her mother married George Venturi. She wanted to be that smart girl at boarding school with lots of friends; the girl who had a great life. A life that she had been proud to have.
The old Casey would never act on impulses. She would never do things that were not arranged. She would never act on feelings that were not in the plan. The old Casey would never be in the situation she was currently in. The old Casey knew a hell of a lot better than this.
The new Casey was someone that Casey hated. If it wasn't her, Casey would hate her and she wouldn't give her a chance. The new Casey was someone that Casey completed hated. So when Derek rolled on his side, his sheet falling just over his hips and smiled at her, Casey felt like throwing up. She couldn't believe this was actually her.
Casey McDonald couldn't believe that she was laying naked in her step-brother's bed. She couldn't believe how they had just spent the last hour. And more than anything, Casey couldn't believe that she actually loved it. She couldn't believe that she would come crawling back the next night to do it all over again.
Casey watched Derek stand up from the bed and slip his robe on. She sat up in the bed, pulling the sheets up with her and holding them close to her chest. She let out a sigh and glanced at the clock, three in the morning. She now had three hours to sleep before school. Casey quickly stood out of the bed and walked back to her own room, after Derek had caught her by the wrist and kissed her gently on the lips.
She sat down on her bed, Derek's sheets still plastered against her sweaty body. She sighed and ran her fingers through her hair. Casey couldn't believe she actually had fallen in love with her step-brother, she couldn't believe she was in love with him. Casey sat back on her bed; she was messily in love and there was nothing she could do to change that.
