IT'S NEVER TOO LATE
AN I know, the title sucks, and so did the ending of Ptolemy's Gate. Here's my version. Oh and the Italicized ones are Barty. Please r&r AN

"This'll cheer us up," Bartimaeus said heartily. "Here's Kitty."
Relief, joy, and that feeling. I can never shake that feeling when she's here.
Can you stop daydreaming? In case you forgot, we have to rush into that building and kill ourselves!
I didn't bother to answer him. "What are you doing here Kitty? I thought I asked you to leave."
She shot me this look. Ouch. Maybe I shouldn't have said that. But I have to get her away. After all, I am about to plunge into my doom.
"Well, if you don't want my help, then—oh god!" She rushed to my side and accidentally clutched the would.
"Ow!" I cringed and fell to the floor. I swear I even heard Bartimaeus chuckle inside my head. Surprisingly enough, I felt no harsh feelings toward him. I guess it was the fact that we were about to die. Kitty cursed and attended to the wound once again.
"God, Nat, I don't think you can go on with this plan, you're hurt pretty bad. Oh and by the way, what IS your plan?"
Bart and I exchanged 'glances' in my head.
You do it Natty boy. I won't mess with you at all. Okay, maybe just a little. Anyhoo, you've got something else to do.
Of course I knew what he meant, but was I really going to do it? Well, I didn't have a lot of time left.
"We're going to shatter the whole building, thus crushing Nouda."
Kitty stared at me for about two seconds, not realizing what I had just said. Then, her eyes widened. I knew what was coming.
"You're going to kill yourselves?!"
"Well if you say it like that—"
"And you were going to go in there without even telling me?!"
"We didn't know that we were going to have to do this!"
Kitty looked at me with this intensity and drive. Only then did I notice she was tearing up, and that she was thinking of doing something totally absurd.
"No. No way!"
"But please! If you're going in there, I am too!" She slammed her fist into the ground.
"No." I struggled to get up, but failed, falling into Kitty's arms once again.
"See? You can't even stand up."
"I can stand up! Right Bart?"
Nothing. That little...where was he when I needed him?
Kitty smiled at me. "You can't do this alone. We'll find some other way to defeat Nouda."
I would've loved to go with her, but I knew what I had to do.
"I'm sorry Kitty," I attempted to stand up again, and this time, I succeeded. "I can't not do this."
She sighed, looked down, then looked up again. Kitty smiled, and I did the unthinkable. It was partially Bart's fault, with him nagging me, saying, 'Nat and Kitty' over and over again. The little bastard.
I leaned in to kiss her. It was as amazing as I imagined it would be. Her lips were so soft. Within no time, she wrapped her arms around my neck and smiled against the kisses. Some would say, it was a few minutes, or even just a few seconds, but to me, it felt like an eternity. An eternity of bliss and sheer happiness. We broke apart reluctantly, and she laid her head on my chest.
Okay Nat, I've left you alone for a VERY long time now. Can we go already?!
I cringed at the sound of his voice. But he was right, I had to go.
"Kitty—"
"I know, I know, you have to go save the world." She laughed, kissed me one more time, and playfully pushed me closer to the building.
"Have fun kicking his ass Nat."
"You have fun kicking ass too Kitty."
She tilted her head and chuckled.
And with that last, sweet memory of Kitty, I ran to my doom.
