Percy Jackson is a tale of finding ones true self and embracing it.
The Hunger Games is a tale of rebellion against what is wrong and taking charge of your own life.
What, do you think, which one is better?
We'll start with Percy Jackson.
The author; Rick Riordan had written several adult mystery novels before he started Percy Jackson. He is a Greek Mythology teacher in San Antonio, Texas. The Olympians is his first young adult series. The first book has been made into a film and there is speculation about the second books going the same way.
The books; The five books in the Percy Jackson are all stuffed to the brim with action, comedy, and suspense. The story speaks of a boy who never knew his father, but then goes on to find that he has a huge family on the paternal side. He makes friends and goes on adventures. Percy is a very strong character throughout all the books.
The movie; The first book in the series was made into a movie in 2010. The film made about 95 million dollars worldwide.
It's success; The books are wildly popular, though the movie was botched completely. About 20 million copies of the first book alone have been sold in 10 countries. The series now has a sequel and companion series.
And now for The Hunger Games.
The author; Suzanne Collins has written other series for young adults including Gregor the Overlander. She helped to direct the making of the Hunger Games. Before she began writing she worked on children's shows.
The books; The Hunger Games trilogy are rather action-packed. Katniss; the main character takes her sister's place in the Hunger Games, where she must fight to the death with 23 opponents. She befriends a few characters including Rue of District 11. Katniss puts on a show for the Capitol by kissing Peeta and claiming that she loves him. In reality, she doesn't know what to think. The Hunger Games has sold 80,000 copies and rights to the novel have been sold in 38 territories.
The movie; The Hunger Games movie made 155 million dollars which gave it the title of third best opening weekend. And it is the best of any film opening outside of summer. People camped out for hours in line to get a prime spot on opening day. The foreign market turned in 59.3 million dollars. Filming for the second movie is already in progress.
It's success; Both the books and the movie were a huge success financially. However, many say that the Hunger Games is the second coming of Twilight because of arguments that have sprung out over whether Katniss should marry Gale or Peeta.
The debate; Both series are extremely successful. However, the question of which characters are better is a different story all together. Percy remains a strong character throughout the entire series. Katniss, starts out as a very strong character who can do many things with little, but by the second book, she is confused about herself and her feelings. To say that Percy is the stronger character is easy. The third book in the Hunger Games concludes the series too quickly and could have been made longer or two books. But, the two series are altogether very different and cannot realistically be compared. In my opinion, Percy Jackson is the better series. I say this because it's my opinion and I have a right to say it. But, your comments have made me realize that the series cannot be compared. The two genres are very different. Myth and reality versus dystopian world. Therefore, I am forced to conclude that neither of these series is the clear winner.
