TITLE: Career Path
PROMPT: 098. Career
RATING: T
WORD COUNT: 290
SUMMARY: Missing scene from the movie. The brothers are in Rocco's apartment contemplating their new career path.
NOTES: Spoilers for the movie. But if you're reading this, I'm assuming you've seen it anyway. And unfortunately, Connor's lovely accent doesn't come through here. Use your imagination.
DISCLAIMER: Boondock Saints was brought to us by Troy Duffy, who I assume owns the story and the characters. And as much as I'd love to claim either Sean Patrick Flanery or Norman Reedus, I can't.

"What do we tell 'em at the plant?" Murphy asked, attempting to break the nervous silence in the apartment.

His brother shrugged. "Dunno. Don't see why we have to tell 'em anything."

"You think anything…"

"We'll hear about it if anything happens. I think he took his six-shooter anyway."

Murphy sat back down, having paced the length of the apartment more times than Connor cared to count. The phone call from Rocco did little to appease the brothers' worry for their friend. They were interrupted by the return of Rocco's "girlfriend" and her friend, but the two women quickly passed out on the couch and weren't any trouble.

"You know," Murphy said, sitting down at the table next to his brother. "We have enough cash for…"

"Shh!" Connor admonished, pointing to the living room.

With a roll of the eyes, Murphy replied, "They're passed out. You heard Rocco, she's on every drug known to man."

"Still," Connor said, his accent thick in that one word.

"Whatever," Murphy waved his hand, "This is quite a different career path we've started on. How do you think Ma's gonna react?"

"When you tell her, let me know. I'm not dumb enough to say anything."

"Like we can keep it from her. She'll know."

"Aye," Connor sighed. "We'll deal with it when it comes. Until then…"

"Any chance we'll get handed another… job?" Murphy asked, taking on Connor's caution.

A slight smile and a shrug were all Murphy got as an answer. It was much later that Connor was at the table checking on the money while Murphy recklessly used the gas stove to light a cigarette when all chaos broke loose. And by the end of the day, Murphy's question got its answer.
