Murmur
She heard them every night while she was in bed, giggles from one and nonchalant whispers from the other.
When we're in the market tomorrow, let's try to get her mind off of Zuko and the Avatar. Let's take her shoe shopping!
She couldn't help but crack a smile at that one. What in the world made them think that she needed their help to take her mind off of anything? She was perfectly capable of doing it all by herself, thank you very much.
I don't think that would work at all. She's not exactly the type of person who can just push things aside for a little fun.
…
Now what was that supposed to mean? She ought to go into their cabin and knock some sense into them! Type of person who can't push things away! How dare them! She could do it as easily as the next person.
Well, how about we get her to relax until we get there. Then she'll be able to have a good time with us!
See? I knew it! She always knew that she could count on Ty Lee. Mai always was the boring one out of the three.
Ty, obviously you aren't getting it.
Getting what, Mai? It can't be that hard for her to have some fun.
No, it isn't. Not the good kind, anyways.
What did Mai know about 'the good kind of fun' anyways? And why the heck did she aim it at her?
How so?
Yes, how so?
Azula is…Azula. Remember when we were kids? It never was fun that she could enjoy without hurting others. It was the fun that made others humiliated or her higher. And if it wasn't the mean kin of fun, she didn't do it at all.
So what is your point?
You want her to have some fun with the two of us.
Well, actually me. All you would do is stand around and looked bored.
She couldn't help but smirk at that last one.
Doesn't matter. Either way you put it, she won't do it because it doesn't involve any kind of conquering. Got it?
Yeah, I think I do.
Now shut up and go to bed.
Azula turned over in her bed and stepped out onto the cool, metal floor. She tiptoed into the now-dark room of her two friends, carefully creeping over to where Mai was snoring.
Wasn't she just awake?
Shrugging, she tied Mai's silky jet-black hair into knots, twisting and interlocking them until you couldn't tell where one knot ended and one tie began.
"That should show her," she quietly chuckled to herself. "I can have fun without the pain of others."
