A drabble focusing on Cagalli's thoughts and the limited freedom that she has through helping others. Kind of an angsty fic, Enjoy!

Signing Away Freedom

She had seen peace. But…

Cagalli sighed, her eyes on the snow that fell outside her office window. Her pen wavered over the peace treaty that she was finalising and no matter how hard she tried to force her eyes back down, she couldn't.

She got up, her legs moving of their own free will to the window seat where she sat down, her head resting against the glass.

So much rested on the shoulders of her name. Yes, so many people worked for a brighter future, but sometimes, Cagalli felt as if the world expected too much from her.

She had seen the world through troubled eyes, yet still, no one seemed to realise that she needed as much support as any other person.

She sighed. Was what she was feeling right now, right? That she was tired, and that sometimes…she just wanted to give up.

However, she was not like that. Everyone came before her; a completely selfless person. She smirked to herself, wishing that she could just open the window and fly away, free.

What would it take for someone to save her; to offer their arms out and say, "You and I have been through many things, but don't go tearing your life apart. If you want to talk about what will be, sit with me, and cry on my shoulder: I'm a friend."

Funny, she thought. She had said the exact same thing to so many people herself and they had not realised that she was talking about herself; that she was crying desperately for help.

She hadn't realised that either, until now.

Cagalli got up, moved, and sat down, picking up her pen once more. She signed the peace treaty, happy that somewhere in the world, the pain would stop.

They would see peace. But more importantly, they would see a freedom that she wouldn't have for a long time yet.

Please review and tell me what you think! I wanted to capture the other side of Cagalli, one that can be perceived in anyway. This is how I perceive it.
