It was the color of blood and of rage. It was also the color of roses and her favorite candies. She both loved it and she both hated it, for more reasons than one. It represented hate and fury and crime, the kind of things that could turn a person's heart into stone. It was of love and of passion.
It was the color of Zuko.
And somehow, she didn't know where she stood when the two things were paired up. It was constantly a win-and-lose, over-and-under battle.
And yet, the memories of him returning never left, filling her with gratitude and hurt and hope. He had given her an apology, sincere and simple, looking her in the eyes without a trace of emotion. She had nodded simply and accepted it, knowing that it was probably one of the most humbling things in his life. What he had done right then was all expected.
She hadn't expected his kiss, though. It was everything that he was- the pain and the suffering, the quiet triumphs, the helplessness and the hidden hope, the I'm sorry and please forgive me in his touch. It was the tears he had shed and the laughter of his youth, memories and dreams rolled into one.
It was red.
Then he had left with only a nod in her direction as a goodbye.
