"So, when's our date?"

Hiccup hoped Jack didn't notice that he froze at that remark, before turning from the bookshelf to face him. "Well... how about tonight?"

"Yeah, why wait, right?" Jack laughed. "Where's it gonna be?" Hiccup pretended to think for a moment.

"Hum... how about that cafe down the street?" Hiccup nodded towards the door as he pulled another book from the library bookshelf. He'd brought Jack to the library with him to find a book for his response to literature essay, wanting to get it out of the way early. They had ducked into the warmth of the library and Hiccup had grabbed Jack's arm to pull him over towards the realistic fiction genre section, and Jack had laughed.

"Wow, I know it's not the best first date, but geez," Hiccup had responded sarcastically and without thinking, much like he always did.

"Yeah, our first date is going to be much more thought out than this."

Hiccup blushed.

Now, standing across from him in the library, whispering and planning their "date" in hushed tones while snorting with laughter, he regretted his snarky personality. He hoped Jack didn't notice how much he wished they were being serious.

"-Hic?"

Hiccup looked up. "What? Sorry, I blanked." Jack smiled and Hiccup's heart melted.

"I was saying, we got it all down? Tonight, 7:00, Aster's Cafe down the street. Right?"

Hiccup grinned in response. "Yeah, sounds good."

"Sweet!" Jack said, bringing Hiccup in for a hug. When they broke apart, Hiccup hesitated.

"So..."

"Hm?" Jack was studying a book on the shelf. Hiccup took a deep breath.

"... You really gonna... take me on a date?" Jack turned to him and smiled softly.

"Yeah, man, I'll take you on a date."

They both grinned and hugged again.
