"Ryuuzaki." Light looked up at the detective sitting across the table from him, clearly annoyed.
"Hai?" The world's greatest detective looked up at the teenager he was all but certain was Kira.
"Would you please stop eating the red pieces?" The boy requested, pushing a red checker to the side so it was safe. A fine idea. Playing checkers with CANDY pieces with the person who had the possibly the biggest sweet tooth on the planet.
"Ah." Light wasn't sure what that 'ah' was. He narrowed his eyes as L picked up his own black piece and placed it moved it over to jump Light's piece.
"Ryuuzaki!" Light started to protest, watching as the detective contentedly ate his 'safe' piece. "Maybe no one told you, but you can't jump over the white spaces."
"You can't?" L blinked in annoying innocence. "I suppose, it is too late now. Your move Raito-kun."
Light grumbled under his breath and shoved his piece over to the other side of the board. "King me." He stated. L looked down at his side of the board and then checked the bag the pieces were in.
"I have nothing to king you with." Light nearly face palmed, he dangerously considered stating he didn't want to play anymore and getting up and walking out.
…But that would hurt his pride more then losing because L had no self-control when it came to sweets.
"Just… flip the piece over and know that it's a king." He decided. L flipped the piece over and pushed one of his own over close to Light's side. As he withdrew his hand he picked up the recently kinged piece and popped it into his mouth.
"…Ryuuzaki." Light twitched. "You can't do that. It's cheating." He jumped over L's piece, which was promptly devoured by the waiting detective. Light let out a sigh and watched as L moved another piece. Light moved one of his own and bit his tongue to keep from cursing as L decided it was legal to jump a white space and then move three diagonal squares to jump over a piece Light had not used yet.
The piece was consumed.
Light grit his teeth and picked up his piece and made it jump over the offending piece. Never mind that the piece was on the other side of the board and he had to go backwards, jump three white spaces and move four squares to get to it. After jumping the piece Light took it and ate it, watching with a satisfied smirk at L's face.
"…Raito-kun. Don't you know the rules of checkers?"
