Tied In Knots

By Tricki

Simon Lloyd heard a furious yell and the sound of something bashing against metal.

"Amanda? Sweetheart, are you okay?" He called. She wasn't in the living room with him, and he realised at this moment he didn't know where in the house she was, or what she could be doing to cause such noises.

"Just," there was a loud bashing sound. "Fricking." And another. "Fine." She hissed, the noises becoming more and more frequent until they built to a crescendo and another prolonged scream from his partner. Simon frowned and set down the medical journal he was reading.

Eventually he found her in the laundry, attacking the washing machine with a metal rubbish bin – although discarded on the floor was a contorted wire coat-hanger, a plastic washing basket which was cracked almost beyond recognition, and a broom with a newly snapped handle.

"Manda?" He asked gently. She didn't cease her frenzied attack on the large white appliance. "Amanda." This next attempt to halt her was no more successful than the first.

Finally he stepped behind her, reached out and caught her arms, muttering calmingly "Manda, Manda, Manda..." in her ear. He managed to still her arms and prise the metal rubbish bin from her hands. Her breathing was coming heavily and her muscles were tense.

He set the metal bin down beside her and encircled her in his arms until he felt her muscles relax before stepping away from her and looking into her eyes.

"Now, are you going to tell me why you were trying to murder the washing machine?" He asked gently.

Amanda shot a death-glare at the machine and in one fluid motion had picked up the bin and was hitting it the machine again. Her words came as a barely controlled shriek:

"I am just so fucking sick of tying my goddamn pyjamas in knots!"

Simon couldn't help but dissolve into hysterics.

The prompt was: "Tie a knot in your pyjamas"
