Only ten years to eleven years prior to Clemont becoming a gym leader, he was only a little preschooler. He was not yet potty trained, as of his bladder and bowels weren't fully matured yet so he had to wear diapers. All the children were potty trained except Clemont, so Clemont hid his diaper with his clothes, like he'd pull his pants up as high as he could over it and would pull his hoodie down to conceal it. But when it was full and had to be changed, Clemont could easily hide the wet diaper because it didn't a smell but for dirty diapers, it was harder because it had a smell, making it more obvious that he was wearing one. He even got embarrassed when they take him to get him changed so he would try to run away from them. Even he'll hide and sit in his dirty diaper until the find him.
Another problem is that Clemont's habit back that was rather life threatening, whenever Clemont slept he would cover up his head and face. Limone picked him up from kindergarten, "How was your day?" he asked the younger Clemont. "Good, daddy" replies Clemont. "Clemont has been covering up his head with his blankets all throughout naptime and we had to uncover his head" says the kindergarten teacher. Limone didn't like that news. When they went home, Limone as worried as could be talked to his wife, Verna. "Mrs. S reported to me that our son is covering up his head now whenever he sleeps" says Limone. "Don't you know what that could do to him?" asks Verna. "Yes we could lose him" says Limone. That night, Clemont covered up his head again. Verna and Limone had to uncover their son's head.
They thought it would stop so they gave it week, but he kept doing it. Verna talked to him, "Clemont if you keep covering your head you'll get hurt" she says. "No mommy I won't get hurt" says Clemont, not understanding he'll suffocate and die. Eventually they didn't know what to do. Then at naptime, the teacher put Clemont's hood on over his head, he slept well without even pulling the blankets over his head. She told them that covering his head seems to help. Then they think about what can he wear to bed that is like a hood but it's still over his head. "My father used to wear a nightcap to bed" says Limone. "It's perfect" says Verna. Then while Clemont was at preschool, Limone and Verna went to the store and got little Clemont light blue footie pajamas and a light yellow and white nightcap. They gave it him. Clemont tried it on and it fits.
Then Clemont slept all night wearing that nightcap and he even wears a nightcap to bed every night ever since that day. Even today, now fourteen still wears a nightcap, but Ash, Serena, and Bonnie don't mind. Clemont wears it for his own safety, so he wouldn't suffocate.
