AN: This is my first story ever! I don't know how far I'm gonna get with this, but if I discontinue it I'll be sure to blurt it out and not leave anyone hanging. Reviews are appreciated even if you hate the story! –FAFC (FluffyAndFatCat)

Alright, I'm done with "spoilers"… im sowwy ;_;

Chapter One: Escape

-Viola-

I have never seen a fire before. Everyone, including me, has seen the tiny comforting flame burning inside of a fireplace. I'm not saying I haven't seen that, I'm talking about never seeing a deadly fire, one that can burn a house down in a matter of minutes.

The home I lived in was now made up of complete ash. Scorched floorboards, charred remains of household furnishings, parts of the area gently touched by someone's blood. My mother's. She set the house on fire for some reason; intentionally ending her life and leaving me all alone after slitting her wrist didn't kill her fast enough. I couldn't stop her- she knocked me out with a frying pan and threw me outside. I'm glad that she didn't kill me as well, but maybe it would have been better that way.

I stood up, my head aching from where mother hit me.

My name is Viola. I thought.

Whenever I hear my name it calms me down, even if I'm the one saying it. I was only thinking like that because I didn't want to cry. I don't think I've ever cried before since I was a baby- I've always been strong enough to hold in my tears. Some unknown motivation made me want to keep that record for as long as I live.

My name is Viola. My name is Viola. My name is Viola…

And just like that, I stared walking out into the unknown depths of the moonlit woods, my feet taking complete control of where I went.

The trees looming around me in the darkness were a bit spooky, the shadows they formed always giving me goose bumps. It was really cold too, but all I wore was a simple black shirt and some leathery pants. I pushed the short brown hair out of my slightly silver eyes and walked onwards.

I walked and walked.

And Walked.

And Walked.

My feet were starting to get blisters all over the bottom of them. But I walked anyway.

Until I tripped.

The root below seemed like it grabbed me, forcing me down onto my stomach. I felt my knee scrape against something, sensing a small trickle of blood running down my leg.

But all I wanted to do was get up and walk again.

My mind was hazy. I shoved all thoughts of the house and my mom out of my head, focusing only on walking.

But where was I going?

I knew this entire time I didn't have an answer to that- I just needed to get away. Maybe I could find something that I needed.

I saw something, though. It moved so fast through the trees it seemed like a monster.

The thing that scared me the most about it was that it had no sound at all.

All of a sudden, it stopped. I stared at it.

It wasn't a monster. It was just my own shadow, looking back at me through the moonlit forest. I shook my head.

I'm getting scared of my own shadow…

But it wasn't mine… was it?

AN: I know this is a very short chapter- I just wanted to shove out a setting and get things going. I will try to release the next chapter veeeeeeeeeerryyyy soon! Oh, also: I know that my indents are kinda weird. I might change it up, I dunno. Maybe I'll try something different next time~~
