The hunt was over. Time for a beer. Dean let himself drop into the booth nearest the bar with a weary sigh. He knew he was tired but adrenaline was still pumping inside of him. He wasn't getting any sleep any time soon.
He nodded at the bar tender who started pouring him a beer. Dean slowly pulled himself out of the booth, paid the bar tender and took his beer back to his booth. As he sat down, he noticed the blonde barmaid who had her back to him. He smiled to himself, thinking how great it would be to top the day off with a hot blonde. He nearly spat a mouthful of beer all over the booth when the barmaid turned round. It was Jo Harvelle.
Dean hadn't seen Jo for over a year, hadn't even given her a second thought during that time. But she started to approach him now, he wondered why he let himself forget about her.
"Hello stranger" Jo smiled, seating herself opposite him, her elbows resting on the table. "How've you been?"
"Been… OK. How about you Jo? You're looking good." He smiled warmly at her as she shrugged her shoulders slightly.
"I'm doing good. Been working here for a while now, getting by best as I can, you know?" She smiled brightly at him and he felt his heart miss a beat. "You been on a hunt? Where's Sam?"
"Sam's elsewhere, but yeah, just finished a hunt. It was a demon but I took care of it." Dean drank some more of his beer, his eyes not leaving the pretty blonde's face as she nodded.
"Was that the one in Orange Park? Greg was gonna look into that. Guess he won't have to now."
"Greg? Who's Greg?" Dean frowned slightly, already suspicious of this guy's involvement in Jo's life.
"Greg's my boyfriend" she replied brightly. She looked over her shoulder and pointed Greg out, who in turn, raised his beer glass to them. Dean gave him a nod, trying to hide his disappointment.
"I wasn't gonna stay in this town for long but then I met Greg. Gave me a reason to stay." She explained, her face glowing.
"Does your mom know about him yet?"
"Not yet" she responded, her glow fading a little briefly. She shook her head slightly and smiled at Dean again as one of the other patrons called to her."Don't leave without saying goodbye, you hear?" Jo pulled herself out of the booth, gave Dean a wink and walked away.
Dean watched her walk across the bar. Actually he watched her ass walk across the bar. When she disappeared behind the bar, his eyes flicked back to Greg, who had been watching her the same way. Dean looked down at his beer glass, feeling deflated. He finished the beer in 2 more large gulps and left the bar without saying goodbye to Jo. No point in torturing himself over what he couldn't have.
