"So for synthesis, you need me to jump into that beam, right?", asked Shepard, "That is correct. All you need to do is throw yourself into the beam and your DNA will be scattered throughout the galaxy." The catalyst responded.

Shepard thought for a little while, synthesis was obviously the best option but he would have to kill himself to do so, and he wasn't to keen on dying. Destruction would destroy the reaper problem all together but wipe out EDI and the geth as well, so that was off of the table. Shepard immediately dismissed control.

He shook himself out of his thoughts and looked towards the giant beam in front of him. He steeled himself for his final sacrifice. He looked down at his blood covered hands, thinking of all of his people he had met in these past few years. He clenched his hands, knowing that this would be the best for everyone in the galaxy.

" Have you made your choice?" The catalyst asked. Shepard decided not to answer that, there's no reason to.

He started to move toward the beam, but stopped, suddenly, looking back at his hands. "What are you doing?" The catalyst inquired ,emotionlessly. "My being is required for synthesis, right?" Shepard asked, not taking his eyes away from his hands. " Yes. If you are having trouble understanding this concept, I could explain it again." The catalyst stated.

" No, its not that. Would any amount of my being work?" Shepard wondered. " What do you intend to do?" The catalyst inquired. "Hold on." Shepard said ,trying to activate his omni-tool. " Come on..." he stated under his breath. There was a faint flicker around his right hand and his omni-tool weakly appeared around his hand.

" Let's hope this works." Shepard said, typing something into his omni-tool. " I am unable to hope." The catalyst stated. Shepard glared back at the catalyst for a moment then went back to typing commands into his omni-tool; the omni-tool morphed itself into a blade and in one fluid motion, Shepard had cut off his left pinkie finger.

He cringed for a moment, but quickly focused on more important matters. He reached down and picked up the severed finger and limped toward the beam. Shepard took a deep breath and tossed the finger into the beam.

At first, it seemed like nothing would happen, Shepard sighed, " I guess it was stupid to think that would work." He readied himself to jump, when suddenly, the beam glowed green ,as well as the machinery emitting it. After a few minutes, a green pulse was soon released from the the citadel, growing to affect the entire Sol system. Later, a large green laser was fired from the citadel into the Sol system's mass relay.

Shepard looked away from the beam to find the catalyst nowhere in sight. He smiled weakly and fell to the floor, all of the stress of the war finally catching up to him. He tried to contact anyone, but his omni-tool had finally refused to turn on. "Oh well, I guess I could just rest here a little while, I did just save the galaxy." Shepard said, letting his eyelids fall shut. (This is my first ever fan fic so any feedback/review is greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.)
