This extremely short story was written in response to Felicity McNeill's DADA HW assignment on her Hogwarts site (www.expage.com/hoggywarts22). The assignment was:

You wake up and find a dragon hovering over you. You look around yourself. You are surrounded by trees. What do you do? Tell me! If you're a Griffindor let's test your bravery!

So here's my story:

I jump up, a silent scream of fear and surprise echoing though my mind. I reach for my wand, but my hand comes up empty! Oh no! I groan. Suddenly, the dragon rears up and jets of fire come spewing out of its mouth! I dive onto the ground and hit a soft pile of moss. I roll with dizzying speed down a terrifyingly steep hill. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh," I scream. I don't want to shout, but I can't stop myself. The shriek escapes from my lips anyway! Darn.

THUD. I finally hit solid, firm, horizontal, flat, un-mossy ground. I lay on my back, panting, for a few moments. I reached out a hand to help myself up. My pinky finger brushed against something familiar...
"My wand!" I cried. "It must have rolled down the hill before I did!"

But I had no more time to continue my conversation with myself. The dragon was upon me! I hefted my wand and pointed it at the dragon, a brave, daring, and all together Captain Janeway-like expression on my face (sorry - couldn't resist. Yay Voyager!).

"Emalshius Blashius youareirrelevantsoactlikeit bloopy blaggly LaLa!"
I shouted. The dragon immediately turned a bright shade of orange. Within moments, he was also sporting fluorescent pink polka dots accompanied by neon green zigzags on his face. The dragon beganto shudder violently. I felt terribly sorry for what I had done, but he/she wasnt really in any horrible pain. So my conscience wasn't yelling TOO loudly.

While the dragon lay convulsing on the hard, rocky ground (remember, we left the moss on the top of the hill), I hastily bent to tie my shoe (hey, what can I say, it was untied!). As soon as I was sure the bow was secure, I jumped up and made a break for it. I arrived back on Hogwarts grounds in record time.

Later, as I lay panting on my bed in the Gryffindor dormitory, relating the story to my friends, I silently vowed NEVER to enter the Forbidden Forest again.

Ever!

PS: All standard disclaimers apply. The Forbidden Forest and Hogwarts were created by J. K. Rowling. Captain Janeway is part of Star Trek: Voyager and is owned by Paramount. I love Voyager! Yay! I love Harry Potter, too. But not as much.
