"You remember those posters that said, "Today is the day of the rest of your life"? Well, that's true, except for one day—the day you die"—American Beauty

Yes, an author's note: I hate myself for doing this. I've started ANOTHER story when I should be finishing some others. Oh well.

"I am Haruno Sakura. My favorite thing is…well, it's not a thing…it's a person. A boy…"
You know those times when you think back, and can only shake your head and sigh at the things that might have been? Well, today was one of those times.
"I hate…NARUTO!"
Vaguely, I can remember thinking to myself that girls were more interested in love than ninjutsu. In a way, I guess I was right.
"Kakashi-san, it looks as if today's going to be one beautiful morning!" I mentally sighed and opened my uncovered eye to glance at the nurse throwing open the heavy blinds. I grumbled something inaudible, and my eyelid closed, blocking out the over-cheery nurse. I could hear her click her tongue and she walked out of the room, shutting the door closed with a slight bang.
--
"Kakashi-sensei," I turn slowly from the large memorial stone, my gloved hand still on the carved granite.
"Sakura," I bow my head in a slight formal greeting. The young nineteen year-old girl stepped by my side, "What are you doing here this late at night?" I could feel her forced smile, and that made me uncomfortable.
"I should ask you the same thing, Sensei."
The wind blew slightly, ruffling the girl's pink hair. I took her hand gently, and she sighed. "I'm leaving, Kakashi."
My brow furrowed, "What do you me—"
"I'm going to find Sasuke, and I'm going to make him come back."
"Sakura…" I sighed. She pulled away from my grasp and turned to look at me, her large emerald shinning lightly.
"Kakashi, I know you think that this is just another love-struck suicide mission, but I know I can make him come back! I just know that…if…if he sees how much we all love him…" She lowered her eyes to the stone monument, and whispered the last of her monologue, "He'll come back to…me."
I lifted her chin; my thumb wiped away a tear that snaked its way down her moon-pale cheek. Sakura pulled down my mask and her soft lips pressed against my own.
I pulled away and rested my forehead against hers. I could feel her shaking, and she pushed away from me. Tears cascaded down her cheeks; her pink hair fell around her face. "This is something I have to do, Kakashi. Don't stop me…" And then she ran.
--
"Sakura, I only want to bring you back to the village!" I could see the—now missing-nin—perform the hand signs for gaining her immense strength.
"Then they'll what?! Torture me until my mind is jello?!" Her emerald eyes shinned brightly as she pounced. Needles ripped into my hands as she pressed me against the ground.
"I will not be taken back to that…place. Do not make me go back!" Lifting one of her hands, Sakura plunged a sebon needle into my neck.
--
A knock on the flimsy door pulled me out of my mental battleground. Tsunade stepped into the room; her blond hair messed and put up in a wayward attempt to look presentable. My sluggish eye slid over to the cream colored file she had in hand.
"And what do I owe this lovely visit?"
Shizune walked behind her mentor, her black eyes sparkling with nervousness. Tsunade threw the file onto the speckled hospital bed-spread. "You may want to read that, Hatake," Raising an eyebrow, I reached 'helplessly' toward the file. Rolling her auburn/gold eyes, Tsunade snatched the file from the bed and handed it to me.
"Why?" I asked slowly, eyeing the cover warily.
Tsunade turned and walked toward the door; stopping momentarily to gaze at me, her eyes misting with tears.
"Sakura's dead."
