Chapter 1: A New Beginning

I closed my eyes, allowing the cool darkness to settle. Everything has been hectic lately. Dad got transferred.

Again. Moving to a new home is supposed to be fun. However, all I felt was dread. I never got any happiness no matter

where I move to. I knew the routine. New home. New school. New faces. Friends? Just when I finally get a few friendly

'hellos', it's time to pack up again. Everything I do is pointless. Why put in effort when everything would just be washed

away one day? "Just wait," I told myself. One day. One day, my life will change. I just didn't know that the day is drawing

close… Starting from the day I moved to my new home in Japan.

…………………………………………………………………………………………

"Kairi-chan!! Hurry up!!" a tiny voice shouted excitedly. "Hold on, Mizuno-chan!" I shouted back, unbuckling my

seatbelt. I hopped down from the 'still-moving-slowly' truck, grinning sheepishly as the driver cursed at me for that 'reckless'

move. "This place ain't bad, huh?" Mizuno smiled as I looked around. "Yeah…" I tried to sound pleased. "Big sis… I know that

this time, you'll be happy here. I just know it," she looked up at me eagerly. I ruffled her dark brown hair lovingly. "Thanks,

Mizuno," I replied. She then ran into our new house, watching men unloading boxes from the van in great amusement.

"A look around wouldn't hurt…" I said aloud, starting to walk down the grey pavement. The wind blew gently

across my face as I walked silently without any clue of where I was going. Suddenly, I heard a familiar sound. Whack. I took

a good look around. Whack. The sound was getting louder now. My emerald green eyes scanned the area, searching for the

source of the sound. My feet brought me right towards a small tennis court. It looked worn out and forgotten, but other than

that it was still usable. I narrowed my eyes, trying to read the blurred sign hung above it. "For public use…" I read aloud in

satisfaction. Whack. Whack. My gaze turned to focus on the two boys using the court now. I leaned against the fence,

watching them play.

"Aced you again!"

"Did not! My racquet touched the ball!"

"Tennis," I mumbled, a small glint forming in my eyes. The one thing I love the most.

Author's note: Yeah, I know… The first bit is kinda boring right? Can't think of any other way to start on this thing. (bangs head on wall) Read and review okay??
