Summary: Some things, when they happen – they are engraved so deep in your mind that you cant help but bend and change for them. Hermione Granger happened to Draco Malfoy. And she was the reason he changed.

I See You

The first time Draco Malfoy realized that Hermione Granger (or any mudblood for that matter) was no different from him and the rest was when he saw her blood pool down in his living room while his manic aunt, Bellatrix tortured her. When she carved up mudblood on Hermione's arm, when he saw the tiny droplets of blood trickle down her pale skin, when he saw her face shine with glistening tears, and when he heard her desperate pleas – he felt nothing but horror for the girl and disgust at his impotency.

That night, everything changed for Draco, everything. He never looked at Hermione the same way as he had before. In that past she was nothing but a weak undeserving pathetic filth who attended Hogwarts but now she was so much more. She was strong, bold, smart, and most of all much braver than he had and could ever been. He respected her but she deserved so much more.

Draco found himself thinking about her constantly. In his sleep he dreamt of her torture and during the day he fretted for her safety. He knew that he was being stupid, and he knew that he shouldn't think of her as much as he did. It wasn't safe. Neither for him and nor for her. But he continued to do so anyway.

After months of worry, Draco finally got to see her. He had been keeping a watch for Potter and his friends – or rather just Hermione – because of the vile thoughts his once upon a time goons were voicing. It made him sick to the stomach just by imagining them in picture. And so when he saw Potter, Weasley and Hermione enter the Room of Requirement, he knew that he had to go in too. He had to protect her – had to make up for all the times he couldn't.

When the killing curse which Goyle had sent Hermione's way missed her by inches (because Draco had shifted himself a little), he sighed in relief.

Of course, it wasn't the last but definitely a first.

AN: Well, I had originally meant for this to be 100 words, but the idea just spanned out. It's still a drabble though. :D I don't know how good it is, I hope you guys liked it, please do leave me your thoughts.
