It doesn't matter what I want
It doesn't matter what I need
It doesn't matter if I cry
Doesn't matter if I bleed
Feel the sting of tears
Falling on this face you've loved for years

There weren't many things she regretted in her life, but in the past few days she had come to realise that she took many things for granted. So much so that she had neglected to see them. Instead, she concealed herself behind a pair of white coveralls, or under a beautiful black hood.

This was a business, she had told herself years go. She had not only fooled herself, but she had almost segregated herself from the most beautiful family she could have asked for.

She sat in her office watching the gorgeous black car tool in, slowly, gracefully, as only those two could manage.

Michael was still on leave; she snorted - whatever that meant. To most people, that meant going away, leaving work and co-workers behind. To them it meant staying home, at the estate, spending even more time together. She wasn't sure if he'd left his partner for more than food and getting cleaned up.

Thinking back, she had said so many things to Dany that she hadn't really thought of before. Things that she wasn't sure if Michael and Kitt realised.

~"The best piece of advice I can give you, is get to know Kitt as well as Michael because those two are inseparable."~

They were partners, yes, but it was so much more than that. Family, friends, confidants. The trust they all shared was unknown to most people, but the bond between the partners was beyond that.

She'd been so frightened the night Dany had told her about Michael. Not for herself, but for Kitt. How would he handle a betrayal like that, especially after he had expressed his concerns to her and they had done nothing to warn Michael? She had felt guilty for not taking him seriously, and not listening to her own intuition.

Then, sitting in the car after Michael had rescued her from Dany's associates, she'd felt like a voyeur, witnessing something intensely private between them. The way Kitt spoke to his panicking partner, the way Michael responded.

She didn't kid herself, she knew just what that soft voice could do to her; the few times she and Kitt had spoken in confidence. Yet, with such a skeptical start, she never imagined that Michael would ever get to the point where he listened to Kitt and took notice. Trust was one thing, respect was something completely different.

Had she been jealous of Dany's relationship with Michael? Possibly. Was she jealous of Michael and Kitt's relationship? That was a definite Yes. She and Devon had established a similar relationship soon after she had come to work for FLAG, yet it was nowhere near the same as what she was seeing now. Through her office window she could see them talking, as they had for the past week. With all the time they spent together, she used to wonder what topics they could conjure up. She wondered no longer.

A part of her longed for that kind of ease and comfort with someone. Her eyes met his through the windscreen. Maybe it was time.
