Author's Note: I don't own Fruits Basket or the lyrics. The lyrics are from "Miserable at Best" by Mayday Parade. The different stages of Hatori and Kana's relationship, from the beginning of their relationship, when he had to erase her memories, and her marriage.

Hatori stood in the office with Kana. Hatori was staring into her bright eyes, they had always been happy and free. Kana had caught him staring at her and had asked him why. He smiled, "You know it's haunting, but compared to your eyes, nothing shines quite as bright."

Kana's face turned red, as she never really believed him when he talked about her beauty. Hatori decided to continue, "You're all that I hoped I'd find in every single way."

Hatori sat on the couch in his living room with Kana. He watched as she started to cry, for the tenth time today, 'Don't cry, I know you're trying your hardest and the hardest part is letting go of the nights we shared.'

He couldn't help but feel like he was slowly killing her, and it hurt him so much. He felt like he was losing the only light and hope that he had ever had in his life. It had seemed to him that Kana had lost her ability to smile and her eyes no longer had their happiness anymore, 'Nothing feels like home. You're a thousand miles away, and the hardest part of living is just taking breaths to stay."

Hatori decided that he would have to actually go through with it, the hardest decision in his life, 'Because these words were never easier for me to say, or her to second guess, but I guess, that I can live without you, but without you, I'll be miserable at best.'

Hatori led Kana to a secluded area, "And everything I could give is everything you couldn't take. Without you, I'll be miserable at best."

Hatori was walking around the Sohma estate, continuing to live, when he saw Kana with her new husband, 'Let's not pretend like you're alone tonight. I'll bet he gets the nerve to walk the floor, and ask my girl to dance, and she'll say yes.'

Hatori continued walking, not bothering to approach the lovers to congratulate them, because he didn't know what he'd say to them, 'And I miss the lips that made me fly.'

'Because I know I'm good for something...I just haven't found it yet, but I need it.'
