The sun was setting behind the Avengers Tower, its dark shadow conquering the streets of New York. He adjusted his hoodie and walked inside the building, knowing that he was doing the right thing. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't nervous. Hell, he was terrified. But he needed to man up and do this for once and for all.
He keep walking towards the elevator, avoiding to be noticed, trying to be a ghost. Every step felt like an eternity. And every step also felt like he's biggest nightmare was coming closer.
"Get your shit together" He said to himself while typing that familiar code. He could feel how his body was sweating from strange places, how his blood pressure was rising, how he was starting to be alive again. It was that or he was just starting to feel an emptiness that would haunt him for the rest of his existence.
The elevator door finally opened, throwing him into an endless pit of memories. Memories he had hidden in the back of his mind. An endless pit of memories of the one he left behind.
Gosh, he hadn't been able to stop about her. The way she laughed when he was acting his age. How she frowned her brows when she was trying to understand some company report. Her dimple showing in the middle of an argument, and how that made him forget his point. How her big green eyes would light an entire room full of people when everything was dark. The way her wavy long auburn hair would fall in his pillow.
The love of his live.
Steve sighted, trying to push the pictures out of his head. He had finally stopped running away from her. But he knew he had to face the reality. His, and hers, reality.
He checked himself in the mirror, knowing that this wasn't the best look for the occasion. His hair was longer than ever, she was probably going to compare him to a One Direction member. He was wearing a pair of black vans, her favorites, some dark jeans with a white t-shirt and the first hoodie he'd seen in the closet. His blue eye semi-hidden behind his hair.
"Welcome home, Steve" he whispered "welcome home"
