Author's Note: Pointless, shameless, preggy, marital TiPo fluff. My favorite kind. Enjoy.
He'd found her at the edge of the cliff, her strong back outlined by shadow as moonlight hit her unseen face. It was a cold winter, snowflakes bellowing from a storm gray sky. The moon's face barely peaked it's way through it, only a slither but enough to gently illuminate the valley.
The Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom was a common place for the residents of the Jade Palace to seek comfort and solace. Even if it's petals lay bare, skeletal limbs stretching out far as the ancient tree partook in its winter slumber. Why Tigress was out here, especially in her recently discovered condition concerned him, causing the panda to seek out the wayward tigress.
She breathed in the cold air deeply. "Are you going to say something Dragon Warrior or gawk at me all night? I've been counting the seconds."
Pinning an ear, he lumbered across the patches of snow to settle himself close. She felt cold and Po wrapped his large arms around her, almost tugging her onto his lap.
Muzzle against her sensitive ear, he huffed, "You should be inside."
"I have too much on my mind to do that," was her reply, angling her face to brandish her jaw and part of her finely shaped eye to him. She was smiling very lightly, always so subtle his mate was.
Po nuzzled his nose against the curve of her chin idly, earning a little chuff at the affection. "Like what?" He inquired.
She didn't say anything at first, merely closed her sunset eyes as her arms crossed themselves along Po's. His paw found its way to her abdomen, gingerly rubbing at the area.
It would still be a while before she would begin to really show, she didn't even look very pregnant yet. Still though Po considered her delicate, even if the tiger could cuff him one over the ears when he would treat her as if made from porcelain. Tigress knew it was because he cared but he could be very smothering when it came to the baby.
He didn't push her but he let her know he was there for her, gently pressing kisses to the side of her face, bestowing years of affection she'd lacked in her youth. She looked content in that moment, held close and treated like the greatest treasure. However she was mildly tense in his grasp, helping allude to her troubles.
"Po... what if I accidentally break it?"
"Break what?" He murmured against her cheek.
"The baby."
There was a pause and suddenly snickers from the big panda. He soon broke into a string of chuckles, earning himself one very offended glare of his tiger wife. Her ears pinned against her head she let out a low warning growl.
"I'm sorry!" He exclaimed as honestly as he could, wiping a tear from his green eye. He was sincere, just the question had taken him completely off guard. Po never thought Tigress capable of such a question. "Just, you surprised me! Please don't punch me in the face!"
With a sardonic smirk, she looked at him. "I'll refrain from that for now, panda."
He tugged her closer in a physical display of begging for forgiveness. "What brought that up anyway, Ti?" Po asked, chin resting cozily on her shoulder.
Tigress frowned. "I've never handled newborns before, Po. Children make me... nervous. I'm so big and they're so little!"
"Lei Lei's been alright for you though, so have the other panda kids," Po mused, smiling.
"No offense to your kind, dear but... you pandas are made of squish. I could throw you down this mountain right now and you probably wouldn't break a bone."
"Um... yeah, let's not test that theory please," he replied slowly.
"She's also not days old either Po. She's almost eight now, I don't go near the new cubs."
"What about Mei Mei's new baby?"
"She offered to let me but I just... I'd break him, Po. He's so tiny."
Suddenly it all made sense.
"Did her new kid bring these feelings up?"
Silence. Po got his answer. Cuddling her as close as he could, he brushed their faces together affectionately. "You're so silly sweetheart," he purred.
"Excuse me?"
"You won't break our kid, Tigress."
"It's so tiny though..."
"It'll grow!"
"But what about when it's first born? The nurse will hand me it and then..."
"Then you'll glow like new mommies do and flat up refuse to even let me hold the cub because it's totally and utterly yours now," Po confidently interjected, earning a torn yet gentle look from his mate. She wasn't sure about it but the way he described it left a fondness swelling in her chest. "You got self control Tigress, you wouldn't be a Kung Fu master without it, ya know."
She scrunched her brows together in a contemplative fashion, the pair merely watching one another. Po kept smiling boyishly, eyes glowing under the moonlight. The shadows brought out her lovely red eyes that flickered as they took in the panda's face. Eventually she relented and breathing softly, she pressed her head under his chin. Her strong arms tightened along his, squeezing his elbows in gratitude.
"I still have four months to finalize this soft stuff at least," she mumbled into his neck.
"I think you already got it down but we can practice."
"How?"
He answered by kissing the top of her orange head. "We'll go visit Mei Mei and you'll hold junior for a bit."
Tigress tensed a moment before Po felt her nod. "Alright... I'd um... like that."
Po tugged the both of them to their feet, practically lifting Tigress who gave a soft grunt in mild protest. Holding her by the shoulders, he nuzzled their noses together. "Let's get inside, I'll make us some soup because we don't need you two catching a cold. You're ice!"
Her response was just a fond chuckle.
