Katniss was running in the woods, trying to escape the tracker jackers and hounds unleashed by the gamemakers. (How unfair is it that the gamemakers can release hounds and stuff while the Hunger Gamers have to run away from all of it?)

Just then, one of the tracker jackers stung her, warping Katniss' vision and making her feel sick. Then, two more stung her. And another, and another! All 522 of the tracker jackers in the arena stung Katniss in just under a minute, making her helpless by the time the hounds caught her.

But the hounds took pity her, much to the gammemakers' dismay. The leader of the pack, Jennifer, looked at Katniss and realised that it would be awful to let someone like her die. So, she bit Katniss' uniform and dragged her to a safe place in the woods, where the gamemakers would've had difficulty seeing her. While Katniss was being taken to safety, the other canines tried to bite and scratch her, almost turning poor Katniss into a meal, like one you could get at a supermarket. Although Jennifer fought most of the hungry meanies successfully, one managed to bite Katniss' left hand and give her rabies. (You need to remember this detail for later.)

Katniss wanted to scream in terror, but the tracker jackers' venom proved to be an effective sedative, bring Katniss to the brink of unconsciousness. In her, at best, semi unconscious state, Katniss tried to yell for help, so that another gamer could put her out of her misery. However, no one came, and Katniss soon found herself lying in a densely wooded area, with only Jennifer knowing where she was.

MEANWHILE, IN THE CAPITOL: Seneca Crane was getting a call from the ever-angry President Snow. "WHAT? You can't find that girl? What the hell is wrong with you, you blubbering idiot! I ought to gouge your eyes out! I ought to cut your tongue out! I ought to castrate you! I ought to kill you, Seneca Crane!"

"B-but sir," Seneca said wearily. Running the Hunger Games was hard enough without Snow breathing down his neck. "We just lost track of her for a minute, and these things happen from time to time. The best thing we can do is to remain calm and constantly watch the monitors, so that we can find her and give the audience an update on her condition. I've already sent a ship to see if I can find Katniss' body."

"I don't care about her body, you moron." Snow shifted in his chair. "What do I pay you for? To sit on your butt while the idiots in the Districts laugh their butts off? I think not. I pay you to run the Games, and that means making sure that contestants don't go missing. Every minute a competitor disappears is one where the audience begins to ask questions. First, they just ask about why the contestant disappeared. Fair enough. Then, they wonder about why they don't make as much money as those in the Capitol, which is quite problematic. But, after they sit on those thoughts, the plebs inevitably think about me and my government. 'Why is my house falling apart?' "Why can't I get my medication?' "Why am I always hungry?'

"That's when seditious thoughts bubble into actions, and rebellions smother Panem. The son who has no future? He grabs a gun. The husband who has no job? He grabs a gun. The people with no hope or potential, they all fight us. They have nothing to lose.

"The purpose of the Hunger Games is to keep these people entertained and to give them something to live for. If contestants go missing, the Games lose their effectiveness and people become bored. That is why your incompetence is so disheartening. That is why, Seneca, your future is in play.

"May the odds be ever in your favour, Seneca Crane." Snow hung up the phone and hastily arranged a trip to the gammemakers' headquarters.
