**This is a super short one-shot for the Fanfic Fanatics Facebook page 400 members challenge…write a 400 word story featuring yourself. So yep, I star in here, lol. Let me know what you think. Could this actually be extended? I could see having a little bit of fun with it.**
I opened my boyfriend's front door and stepped inside. I was immediately aware of two things: the pizza was already there, because I could smell the cheesy goodness, and he had a woman in the other room. One with musical laughter that floated out into the foyer where her hot pink Coach bag sat next to Joe's house keys. How homey!
That immediately got my feathers ruffled. I stomped into the living room, ready for a fight, and found them sitting together on the couch, beers in hand, watching the Rangers game. I couldn't believe it, he invited another woman on our date night?
"Hey, Cupcake, pizza just got here," he said with a smile, patting the cushion on the other side of him.
I could tell he was up to something, but what? "Stephanie Plum, Joe's girlfriend," I said holding out my hand to his floozy.
"It's so good to meet you, Steph. Joe talks about you all the time," she smiled as she stood. She was five foot nothing, with shoulder length brown waves that she had in complete control, and happy blue eyes that genuinely seemed happy to meet me. I couldn't help but smile back as she clasped my hand in a firm handshake. "I'm his new partner, Billie."
I think I took a step back in shock. His new partner? The one he's been helping move and taking out for drinks after work? That pig. I was sure he was trying to seduce her, that's the only reason he'd be that nice to her. "Nice to meet you."
"I'm gonna grab another beer while I'm up. You need one, Joe?" she asked. "Steph?"
I could only nod as I watched Joe grin at her, "That'd be great. Thanks, babe."
Babe? Babe! Was he shitting me here?
"What? You look like you swallowed something sour?" he asked me once she was out of the room.
"Your partner is a girl? Did you forget to mention that?" I hissed at him.
"What's the big deal? She's new here and don't know too many people and I thought you'd like her," he shrugged like he really didn't see the problem. Maybe he didn't. Maybe I was being stupid. "Think of it like I do when you go work with Ranger. She's just my partner."
I just stared at him. He had me there, the jerk.
"Checkmate," he grinned.
