Disclaimer! I do not own any characters, nor Boku no Hero Academia. The idea had been based and inspired from the Danganronpa and the Nonary Game series. If you watch horror movies, you can think of it like SAW too, but I haven't watched those films, so I can't say I was inspired by them.
This is my first time writing mystery-focused story, so there may be plot holes. I tried to leave hints and foreshadowing as well. There also may be OOC moments, but what can I do? C'est la vie.
Yes, it is AU where Midoriya doesn't have One For All.
All right, that's enough of me blabbering around. Thanks for giving this chapter a try. You can start reading now and enjoy. Or not, I'm not your mom.
It felt like he was in a void of some sort, floating for an indefinite amount of time. He couldn't recall how he had gotten there, or more importantly, how he could get out. Despite the obvious mystery, he couldn't question its validity. As if the darkness had been consuming his thoughts, as if he hadn't a single worry in his mind, he fell freely.
"H-Hey." A voice whispered unclearly, with his ears grabbing hold of those words. He imagined himself looking furiously around, but there may have been no point. The feeling of helplessness had finally sunk in once his mind recollected itself. His body shivered as it glided on the surface of the darkness, a surface that always stopped and always begun. Why was he here in the first place?
"Hey, wake up." That voice called out for him once again, yet the contents have been mumbled. However, it mattered not to him. With the utter of the question in his mind, he had already answered with his own response with certainty. This is the place where those who are cannot feel a presence with the real world. In other words, he was unconscious, but that only rose more questions. Why was he unconscious? How did he become unconscious? Those were answers that he could not respond by his own strength. Think as much as he wanted, nothing wanted to help him out.
"Do you think he's dead?"
"No, he's definitely still breathing."
"Should we let him rest?"
"I think it's better if he wakes up as soon as possible, ribbit."
"Hey, wake up!" He heard more voices emerge from the shadows, but it was wrong to say that. It felt like they weren't coming from randomly selected locations among the void.
His eyes noticed a glint of light coming from the corner of his vision. There was a breach in his darkness, and without much thought, his arms reached out. Grasping, yet never moving, the light leaked through, slowly engulfing and conquering the shadows that were holding him captive. It was both blinding and disorienting. His body was rumbling, shaking, but not trembling. He hadn't been the one to control it after all. Light didn't have any physical properties to it, so he had been wondering what was moving his body.
Izuku Midoriya slowly awoke from his deep slumber, his eyes hesitating to claim its quiet victory.
"Everyone, he's waking up!" He felt a warmth candling the back of his neck, holding him upwards to stare into the bland ceiling. To save him from that bleakness, a boy poked his head to block Midoriya's original sight. For a short second, he had thought the boy had horns, although on closer inspection, it was simply red hair, spiked up in such a similar method.
Midoriya mumbled his words, still in a state of shock. The fact that he could get a sound out of his mouth had been thankful towards the boy though. His fanged teeth clapped on top of each other, smiling brightly.
"You finally woke up!" His boisterous relief was evident, while he aided Midoriya upwards so he could sit. "I was getting really worried that you might have been dead, but luckily, that wasn't the case!"
Midoriya had many questions being thrown back and forth inside his brain. Even before he could recollect his memories, even before he could return to a stable right of mind, his mouth opened without his permission. Although, it hadn't been very offensive, but understandable.
"Where… are we? Who are you?" He reflexively grabbed his head with his left palm, easing the small headache that overcame him suddenly. "What are we doing here?"
"I certainly can't answer the first and last question," a response beckoned Midoriya, "but I hope we can introduce ourselves." He looked to his left, watching as a person with black hair combed to the side approached his downed body. His physique was certainly tall, easily towering himself without trying. Although, his rectangular glasses had been the only thing that kept him relatively unique from the rest—
Midoriya realized that there were many more people in this place alongside him. All things considering from a brief glance, this person's appearance had been exclusive. He bent down to a knee, respecting the shatter of height differences due to the situation, and smiled to him.
"My name is Tenya Iida. It's a pleasure to meet you."
The person who had been holding him up patted his back. "Eijiro Kirishima. Don't forget it!"
Midoriya was thankful that he had regained most of his mental stance by the time his brief introduction rolled around. To be suddenly surrounded, he felt like he needed to stammer to cope with it. "U-uh… My name's Izuku Midoriya. I-It's nice to meet you, Iida, Kirishima."
"Say, Midoriya..." Iida's tone loomed over Midoriya, in an uncomfortable way. He hadn't felt severe hostility, but there was a curious air leaking out. "You don't happen to remember what you were doing before you woke up here, do you? Like if you met someone you didn't expect?"
Of course, he had definitely remembered. The main problem was in between, which may have been what Iida wanted. There was nothing worth mentioning, but the earnest question caused him to reveal his hand. "I had been walking home from my high school, stopping by a convenience store. It…"
He remembered that day clearly. Even when Bakugou left to a different school a half a year ago, the person who had been the main source of his bullying, it had still persisted. It was simply the problem with being quirkless. However, he accepted it, since it was less brutal than what Bakugou had put him through. Despite that, the physical abuse had augmented since none of the verbal attacks could do much to him. It pained him to even speak about it towards his mother. He did meet someone though when he stopped by the store. However, he decided to be vague about that topic for an entirely different reason. It might bring up uncomfortable feelings.
"It was... a rough day for me at school, so I always read the magazines that they have relaxes me, reading up on articles about heroes. When I left to go home, that's when I just blanked out. It's like I fainted and collapsed or something, but I'm sure that I came across someone before I did. What they looked like; I couldn't tell."
"But what the hell are you doing here, Deku?"
Midoriya's spine froze. It had to be a dream-no, a nightmare. Of course, he was happy to see him again, but at the same time, he couldn't turn his head towards the voice that beckoned him. It felt like a bad joke that had a hanging punchline no one understood.
Gulping down his hesitations, his eyes slowly drew towards that familiar growling tone, like a magnet that had to obey the laws of physics. There, sitting upon a couch, was a boy, staring back at him with sharp red eyes. He had ash blonde, spiky hair, so it was fitting for what quirk he had-something that Midoriya knew for what seemed like his entire life. Sweat dropped from his forehead, just as sweat dropped from the opposing teenager for some reason. "K-Kacchan…"
"Everyone here goes to U.A. High School, so it makes sense why we're here. I want to know what the hell you're doing here." Bakugou beckoned Midoriya to look around the room, where he noticed something similar about all of them. They all had the similar grey uniform on, tucking in their white undershirts and red ties. With the dark uniform pants to add, there was no doubt in Midoriya's mind that he was in the presence of heroes-in-training. That was what U.A. had been for, and it was a place that he wanted to go to when he was a child. Seeing the other teenagers in their uniforms, he felt his heart dropped a little.
If he had a quirk, he may have been going to school with them.
"U-Uh… I…"
Iida stood to face Midoriya's fear, tackling it with his own sternness. "Bakugou, he's as much as a victim as we are right now. You need to treat him respectively…" Only then, Iida noticed the different names that Bakugou and Midoriya used for each other. "Wait, do you two know each other?"
"H-He's a childhood—" Midoriya nervously broke away while Bakugou vociferously interrupted.
"Unfortunately, I do. Though, he's just someone irrelevant who thought he could match me! Do you know how good it felt when you finally learned your place!? U.A. was never a place meant for wimps like you!" Bakugou ignited his palm in a quick and loud fashion, with the center sending up an small explosion, ending in mere seconds. If it was for intimidation, it had been working, since Midoriya had been trembling due to the uncomfortable memories that his quirk brought to him. Bakugou's quirk was 'Explosion', a quirk that Midoriya had felt the force personally. Needless to say, it wasn't a pleasing experience.
Midoriya never thought that way though. He didn't understand why Bakugou acted so hostile towards him and his dreams- rather, his former dreams. If anything, Bakugou should have been happy that he had someone who respected him so much, but anything that felt similar to that feeling to Midoriya, it appeared to be an assault on Bakugou. That eventually escalated until the end of middle school. If it weren't for another childhood friend for helping him out, he may have gotten seriously injured from Bakugou. He wouldn't put it past him if he dared.
"Bakugou, please stop, ribbit." Midoriya heard another voice leap out from the side, similarly to how she enter into his vision. Her wide eyes made Midoriya jump on the floor, but she was-indeed-a human. To Midoriya, it looked as if she was like a frog. Her sea-green hair, tied in a bow along her back, definitely fit the theme. She walked up to Midoriya, extending her hands to him. "I think the couch is a better place to sit than the floor. You'll be much more comfortable."
"Thank you…" He grabbed her hand in response, noticing that it was like another other human's grip. He stood up, brushing off whatever dust decided to stick on alongside him.
"Your name's Midoriya, right? I'm happy that you're alright. My name's Tsuyu Asui, but you can call me Tsu." Her blank and vacant stare had coincided with her monotone voice, but for some reason, Midoriya could feel a heartfelt concern and introduction.
"It's nice to meet you, Tsu." As Midoriya replied, he staggered forwards after releasing his grip. He had just been unconscious, so standing up was a bit difficult, but he quickly regained his posture.
Asui turned to everyone else who had been in the room, while Midoriya finally focused in on their appearances while moving towards a nearby couch, along with Iida and Kirishima who had helped him. "Everyone, you should introduce yourselves."
A tall girl with a curvaceous body stepped forward. With onyx-colour eyes and black hair that was tied in a rather large, spiky ponytail, she definitely had his attention from her first words. "My name is Momo Yaoyorozu."
A smaller boy had popped up behind Yaoyorozu. His hair had been odd, resembling grapes from a vine. The colour was similar in that fashion as well. His small stature, however, made him have to look up to Midoriya, even though he had sat down. "I'm Minoru Mineta!" He pointed to himself with a thumb confidently, but his voice had been quietly trembling. The declaration was short and on point, but it felt like Mineta's mind was somewhere else.
One more voice called from the side, where Midoriya's attention was drawn to a side wall, where a teenager with an obvious difference. Unlike Asui, where Midoriya thought she resembled a frog, this student's head was definitely one of a bird- to be precise, it was the head of a black hawk. His deep voice didn't surprise Midoriya after seeing what he had looked like. "My name is Fumikage Tokoyami; a pleasure to be meeting you." He nodded towards Midoriya, who had been working hard to remember all of the names shot at him in a short amount of time.
There was another boy sitting on a nearby couch, but it was turned away from him. As he peered backwards, Midoriya noticed the split hair colour down the middle, half was red and half was white. He would have marked it as someone who used hair colouring, if it weren't for the heterochromia that made the entire dea convincingly natural. However, Midoriya saw the obvious burn scar surrounding his left eye, but it felt too impolite to inquire about that for someone he had just met. "Nice to meet you," the boy introduced. "My name is Shoto Todoroki."
Midoriya bowed nervously to everyone. "It's nice to meet everyone!"
"Well, if we weren't trapped inside of this place, it would have been even nicer," Mineta blurted out. "But instead of being out there, watching sexy girls, we're stuck in here! Although…" He leered back towards Yaoyorozu with a lecherous look. "I suppose you—"
"Hey, grape! Shut the hell up!" Bakugou howled. "Pick a damn place and time!"
Kirishima laughed at Mineta's antics. "I guess being a pervert is a full-time job! Too bad Jiro isn't here to diffuse him."
"Is it wrong to leak my desires!?" Mineta screamed. "I'm literally freaking out here! I need to cope with it somehow! We don't even know what time it is!" Mineta crouched down with his head tucked into his arms, being crushed under the situation they they were given. He sniffed, trying to hold back whatever tears forced themselves out.
'Trapped?' Midoriya looked around the room. Besides the furniture scattered organizedly around the room, which included a handful of couches, a television set, an aquarium without fishes, and pieces of artworks and sculptures, Midoriya noticed a collection of doors. To be exact, there were five iron doors and one relatively bigger iron door. They all appeared to have no latches or handles to them, by Midoriya noticed a small machine next to each one. From what he knew, they looked like some sort of scanner that pillared up from the ground. However, that was one concern he couldn't respond to.
He could answer Mineta's second anxiety-filled matter though. "If you want the time, I have a watch." He pulled up his arm to look at his wrist, where his watch had been snuggled on and resting. "It's—"
Midoriya realized something. What he had been looking at wasn't his watch. Instead of the sleek black accessory that he had been familiar with, it was a red bracelet that embraced tightly onto his forearm, almost suffocating the life out of it. Midoriya flipped his arm around in a quick panic to see if there was any way to remove it, but the bracelet had no methods in which he could take it off- at least, not one that he knew of. However, the most important part was—
"What the heck is this?" Midoriya's breaths became more heavy as he stared into the single panel that spanned the entire surface. He couldn't get it off. It wouldn't even budge. He doesn't even remember ever putting the bracelet on at all! Midoriya, in a rush of uneasiness, tried to push the bracelet off his wrist, but there was no results. Being trapped inside a room and having an unknown bracelet on?
Midoriya's breathing became faster ads his eyes started to widenned. His heartbeat unconsciously rose up, as did his body. "Wait, what the heck is going on!?"
He felt the embrances of two hands on his shoulders. His breaths relented as he looked towards the two who had been nearby.
"Stay calm, Midoriya," Iida eased, as Kirishima held him alongside Iida. "All I can assume is that villains have captured us somehow, but the pro heroes must already know what's going on. I have faith that they will come, or you should too."
"As long as we're fine," Asui added, "the pro heroes will work endlessly until we're safe."
"R-Right…" Midoriya took a deep inhalation, releasing the air inside his lungs steadily. He repeated a few more times to recollect his mind. "You're right, Iida. The pro heroes should definitely know what's happening. Of course they'll notice a group of U.A students suddenly missing. There's nothing to worry about. Absolutely nothing."
Despite the quick resolution, Midoriya peered down to his bracelet. It felt rather uncomfortable. Was there really no way to remove the bracelets?
"Don't even bother trying to get it off, Deku. If someone like me couldn't get it off," Bakugou said, revealing his own bracelet on his wrist, "what makes you think that someone as useless as you could?"
"You didn't need to word it like that, Bakugou," Yaoyorozu reprimanded. "You need to be more considerate of your words. How are you going to be a pro hero acting like that all of the time?"
"Screw off. I'm already the most powerful student in our grade, no doubt!" he bolstered. "I'm only a few steps closer to being stronger than All Might himself!"
"Yet, you can't get us out of this situation…"
"Shut up, grape! You wanna to die!?" he flared up, both in emotion and quirk towards Mineta, who reflexively flinched in the howl. Mineta always liked playing with fire around Bakugou and all of the students knew that. Even Midoriya, who had no knowledge of him before hour started, had a good idea what Mineta was liked based on everyone's reactions towards him.
However, Bakugou's fired nature had reminded him of another matter he wanted to talk about; specifically towards Bakugou. He was reminded of something.
"Hey, Kacchan?" he hesitantly asked. His curiosity would make him bite the bullet. "How's Uraraka at U.A. High School? I-I know it's been a while since I saw you two… but…"
"Hell if I know, and hell if I care."
"Bakugou," Tokoyami sighed, "Uraraka is in our class."
"She's literally right here," Todoroki added in. "Of course, if you're referring to Ochako Uraraka." He beckoned Midoriya to come closer, which he got off the couch and lightly sprinted towards where Todoroki had been resting.
There, resting on the ground in front of that couch, had been a familiar sight. The girl had brown hair, reaching just above the shoulders, while two locks had draped themselves. If the hairstyle kept the same, she should have had a short bob at the back of her head. Donning the uniform as expected, he caught attention of her fingertips, which had pads on them. This was definitely Ochako Uraraka.
Be that as it may, Midoriya faltered in saying that she was asleep. He considered his own awakening to the place, and made a likely assumption. Despite that, his eyes sparked with a glint of a small candle.
"Has she woken up yet?" he asked Todoroki.
"No, she hasn't. She's been like this for a while, so I think she was the last one that they caught." Todoroki closed his eyes, his hands prattling to help him think. "Yeah, they definitely needed to make multiple hits. The majority of us were walking to school separately, so they had to have been waiting. I'm usually one of the first to get to class, and-unexpectedly-I was one the the first to wake up from whatever they did to us."
"By that logic, they got Midoriya before they got Uraraka," Asui deduced.
"That's not really possible though…" Midoriya rebutted.
"Wait, why?" Kirishima asked. "It sounds logical to me. Bakugou is usually one of the first to arrive at school too, and he woke up respective to that arrival, according to Todoroki." Todoroki nodded, supporting Kirishima's evidence.
Instead of Midoriya responded, Iida opened his mouth instead. "Don't you remember when I asked Midoriya about what he remembered? Midoriya mentioned that he was caught on the way home from school. Everyone else had been caught on the way to school."
Midoriya's sighed after coming up with a possible conclusion. "Don't tell me they picked me up on a whim…" Being with a group of heroes-in-training, that was the only solution he could think of. There was no other plausible reason that could explain his appearance here. He dropped his arms forwards, in a heavy sigh. "Just my luck…"
"We're probably reading too much into this," Yaoyorozu interrupted. "For all we can know, they probably weaken whatever they used to make us fall unconscious on Midoriya. We don't know what they used to make us fall unconscious. All of this is only speculations, but the main concern has been cleared; that everyone is alright."
"Uraraka hasn't woken up yet, but she's breathing normally…" Todoroki reported.
"We can never be too sure," Kirishima said.
"Well, your worrying about Midoriya went without results, since he was completely fine," Mineta mentioned. "It shouldn't be different with Uraraka."
"It's never bad to worry for a friend though," Asui said, tipping a finger against her wide mouth. "That counts for Midoriya as well."
"M-Me? A friend already?" Midoriya stammered. Being a social outcast due to the obvious reason, the term had been rather unexplored in his waters.
"You're in this situation as deep as us, so of course, you'll be one of us!" Kirishima assured. "Why wouldn't you be?"
"Thanks…"
Bakugou growled, as he approached Midoriya. His teeth revealed their fangs. If he had pushed down any harder on his grit, he might have broken them. With an angered voice, he stopped before Midoriya, leering down. "I refuse to be associated with some pebble on my road. No, you're not even a pebble. You're like dust to me without a quirk!"
Suddenly, everyone had turned towards Midoriya in a shocked manner. Silence filled the room like a ship cabin sinking into the sea. Their eyes focused on him, unfaltering their stares. It seemed as if the room had frozen in place, lasting an enerity to Midoriya. He thought they were going to dislike him now. It was always like that, even in high school. The moment that they discovered Midoriya's lack of a quirk, they abandoned him. Those who he thought were trustful only thought about their own reputation.
He's just a stupid, quirkless kid.
No hard feelings, but we shouldn't talk anymore.
What are you going to do about it!? Fight back with your 'quirk'!?"
He trembled on his seat, as the unpleasant memories flowed back into his mind. He imagined the laughter exponentially growing in sound as he breathed in and out once, as he breathe in and out twice, as he breathed in and out thee thrice. There was no way to measure the time accurately, but even if there was, Midoriya was already cowering in fear. He clenched himself, preparing for the worst.
Instead, there was a pat on his back.
"If you're quirkless, then as heroes-in-training, it's our right to protect you," Iida announced. "We won't think of you differently, if that was what you were worrying about. If anything, we feel inclined to help you out more, since your a normal civilian."
"Midoriya, cheer up! It's not a manly thing to do to leave someone because of something so simple. We already have one person cowering in fear," Kirishima peered towards Mineta, "we don't need another one."
"Hey, I just want to get out of here!" Mineta snapped. "I'll grovel as much as I need to!"
"Pathetic."
"Bakugou, shut up!"
A vein submerged onto Bakugou's forehead. "Oh? Did I hear a piece of fruit talk back?" His growling became tense, bloodlust aimed with Mineta in its sights, who tried to jump back into Yaoyorozu's body. However, Asui shot out her long tongue—which made Midoriya jump slightly—to knock Mineta out of the air, like a frog swatting a fly.
Todoroki and Yaoyorozu blinked at the new information as their lens, but he noticed that Todoroki merely shrugged and sighed before turning away. It appeared as if he didn't care much about the revelation, while Yaoyorozu walked around Mineta's dazed body to confront Bakugou.
"Look what you've done, Bakugou. You really need to learn to control that mind of yours. If you're first instinct is to act hostile, it will end up badly for you when we actually become real pro heroes. Decision making is always fundamental, and emotions are what allows us to take on situations in different manners."
"Shut up, I don't care."
"It's essential that you do learn it!"
"Just because you got higher on me on the midterms, it doesn't mean you can spew out words from your mouth to me!"
While the two had been arguing, Tokoyami approached Midoriya, chuckling. "If you are indeed quirkless, than perhaps this is fate for you. I don't know what kind of past you had that made you tremble in such a way in the exposure of your quirkless self—I could only imagine though. However, we are heroes-in-training, so we must always extend our hands towards those that need it."
"Tokoyami… Everyone…" Despite the howling winds blowing from within, the storm seemed to be over- rather, he was preparing for a storm that wouldn't happen. Gentle tears ran down from his eyes, but he caught them before they could go far. Swallowing his breathe, he claimed his mental stance.
He had felt peace, ironically, with Bakugou in the room. However, it still felt wrong to be given such a hand. It felt like he needed to prove this friendship. He felt like he needed to prove himself to them that their time isn't wasted.
"Even so… Even without a quirk…" There could be something Midoriya could do, given that the others hadn't been capable of it. "I still want to help everyone get out of here. I won't just stand around, doing nothing."
"Deku, you'll just be in the way." Bakugou redirected his voice from Yaoyorozu.
"I just…" Talking to Bakugou was tough already, but trying to talk to him without sounding as if he was on the same level was more difficult. Midoriya rolled through the vocabulary in his mind, piecing possible phrases he could allow to be said. He instinctively stood up from his seat though. "Kacchan, I just need a chance. I just don't want to be useless…"
"Alright Deku," Bakugou scowled. The words and the tone didn't exactly match up. "If you want to help, then explain why we're in this room, and how we could get out!"
An impossible feat given the situation. Of course, given enough time, he could have deduce a few things. He already had a couple of ideas off the top of his head. For example, they could have been kidnapped for some sort of ransom, or they could have been kidnapped to be experimented on and this was just their prison cell. Maybe the League of—
Of course. The League of Villains.
He hadn't been there to see it for himself, but apparently the League of Villains attacked the Unforeseen Simulation Joint while the students were there. The reason wasn't given to the public, as if they knew, but it was entirely possible that their goal was to kidnap the students. He did hear on the street that an organization had been trying to spread chaos in the city from his classmates, but that was just a rumour he heard without permission. It could entirely be something different, but it could have been the most likely situation. Although, he had heard more rumors that the villains had been trying to kill All Might, who was a teacher at U.A. High School, and was present there. Then again, it would make sense to kidnap the students since it inclined All Might to come and find them. Then, the League of Villains would have All Might to fall directly into their hands, and any other heroes who followed suit. In this possible situation, they were simply bait rather than poker chips on the table. However, that only solved the first part of what Bakugou wanted, assuming that the League of Villains is behind this.
Midoriya looked around the room, taking an observational glance and took in everything he saw. Yes, there were six iron doors, but one had been obviously bigger than the others. They can assume this is the exit, or at least, a final checkpoint. As long they can gain access to that door, they should be able to escape. However, Midoriya could only assume that this was in fact a makeshift prison for them. Knowing Bakugou, he would have already tried to blow up the doors wide open, but to no avail. Midoriya did notice the drops of sweat on Bakugou's face, so that confirms the locked status. Surprisingly, Bakugou didn't even manage to leave a dent or a mark on the doors. They were entirely clean. However, if this was a makeshift prison, then why were the doors locked so proficiently?Midoriya knew there must have been another plausible reason. Perhaps they created this area just to hold them captive? It was entirely possible for a group that wanted to kill All Might. There was also—
"Huh? Izuku?" A familiar voice had snapped Midoriya out of his trance, while he noticed everyone's- at least, mostly everyone's- expression had been one of disbelief. The only one who hadn't been fazed was Bakugou, Asui, and—
Uraraka.
"Ochako!? You're up!" He couldn't help it, but to stop his thoughts on their tracks and smiled as he met his other childhood friend, conscious and well. Ochako was one of the only people to treat him like an actual friend in elementary school after all. "H-How are you?"
With a warm smile, she spoke. "I'm doing really good!" She grabbed onto Midoriya's hand, who smiled back. "You look so similar! You haven't changed!"
"Yeah… I suppose it's has only been a year or something…" Midoriya answered. "How's U.A.?"
"U.A. has been a good place to me. I think you would have been a good fit over there, even with their support course."
Midoriya sheepishly shook his head. "No, I decided that wasn't the life meant for me."
Suddenly, she came closer and whispered. There was a slight tug on Midoriya's hands. "So, how was your meeting with Bakugou? He didn't hurt you, again, did he?"
"N-No," he stammered, peering towards the spoken friend. "He's just as scary as before though…"
"I guess that's a start." As Uraraka released Midoriya's hands and turned to leer at Bakugou, he grunted, turning to another direction.
"Only elegant and bubbly Uraraka could tame the fiery Bakugou…" Mineta mumbled in in mouth, still lying on the ground. "Even monsters have their weaknesses…"
"Say one more word grape, and I'll kill you myself."
The group giggled- even Midoriya- in the sight of the random antics. If they hadn't been trapped in the room, perhaps it would have been a pleasure experience for him. Knowing that Uraraka was alright, he returned to his thoughts quickly, since there was something bugging him ever since he saw the six doors. Why exactly were there six doors? If it was a true prision, one door would have been effective and simpler. They were all equipped with some sort of scanner also, but that didn't explain anything.
There was also the bracelet. Why had it been on so tightly? Why was it as durable as the doors, judging from the fact that Bakugou tried to remove it himself without any feat?
"Izuku, you're muttering again, and you're scaring everyone."
Midoriya snapped back with Uraraka's voice, as he noticed everyone else had been staring at him again. He honestly had to stop that bad habit of his when he was thinking. Simple things like remembering information for a test had been fine, but his teacher needed him to move to another empty room for things like math tests since he would always mumble the answers inadvertently while deducing and calculating the answer.
"Ah, sor—"
Midoriya didn't get a chance to apologize out of his habit.
"Everyone, the television is turning on."
Iida's call to the students caused them to pour much of their attention to the static noises being produced by the television. Fittingly, there was a static screen flickering its erratic black and white net pattern, until Midoriya noticed a faded figure in that mess. He held his breath, as the figure became more darker, more clearer, more menacing…
A person with a mask on had shown up on the television screen. It was unsettling to look at, despite its bland, black colour pallette and the hood covering the person's hair, but everyone in the room could have made the same conclusion. This was the person who kidnapped and trapped them here.
「Welcome. I say, welcome to this game I have created. The game of life and death.」The distorted cover obscured their true voice, most likely wanting to hide their identity. If someone had told Midoriya that it had been for an unpleasant feeling, he would have been inclined to believe them.
"You!" Bakugou screamed at the top of his lungs. "Tell us where the exit is, or you'll be sorry when I get my hands on you!"
「I am predicting that your classmate, Katsuki Bakugou had just tried to threaten me.」Everyone raised their eyebrows at the accurate prediction, but everyone who knew Bakugou knew that it wasn't out of character for him to immediately resort to that. 「However, I shall respond with this. This video has been pre-recorded and was designated to be presented when the final player has awoken from their slumber. Therefore, it will be meaningless to partake in a conversation with me, or rather, the past me.」
"Bakugou, I think it's a good idea to listen what this person has to say," Tokoyami suggested. Bakugou grunted, but his quietness agreed with his classmate.
「I shall continue this message of mine, so I highly advise everyone to listen carefully.」Midoriya stared down the speaker with the sharpest daggers he could bare. If there was going to be any important information that could help him, it was going to be in this moment. Considering this is a prerecorded message too, there's a possibility that he could only hear this message once. His ears were on alert, and his mind concentrated for the value of an entire month of studying.
「Firstly, allow me to introduce myself. I have been called many things in the past, but the name 'Villain' seems to be the most fitting. I am also the person who invited all of you to this location.」
"Invited?" Kirishima scoffed at the notion. "More like forced."
「You may notice from Katsuki Bakugou's possible attempts, but there is no way to use brute force as your method out of this room. The doors are locked tight, and the walls are as reinforced as the doors. Alongside the strength, I highly recommend for you to save your energy. All of the walls are soundproof, so any screams for help or loud ruckus that you make cannot be heard on the outside. This location was created taking accounting of everyone's quirk, so nothing can ruin the game for me or for you. This has to be fun, but fair after all.
You may be curious as to what is behind those doors. This location was designed with five sectors, let alone the main lobby, which all of you reside currently. Each of the iron doors leads to a different sector of the location. The bigger door, however, is the exit to this area. It leads to your freedom, where you may run home to your families and friends.
You have my word.」
"This guy really gives me the creeps," Mineta exclaimed.
"Can he really be trusted?" Todoroki added.
"Well, can you think of something else?" Asui answered. "Even if it's a clue led on by a villain, I have some sort of hunch… It's entirely possible that he's telling the truth."
"How could you tell?" Uraraka asked.
"Regardless, Villain is still speaking," Iida interrupted.
「Now, I shall explain the game for you all. This location is designed to blow up in twelve hours starting from the moment this video ends, effectively killing everyone left in the area.」
The students gasped at their precarious position. Midoriya twitched his eyebrow, wanting to falter into the possible despair, but he persisted in his active listening. He needed as much information as he could get.
「Do not be alarmed. I have created and ensured an available method to open up the exit for all to escape.
As you all may have noticed, there is a bracelet locked onto your wrist. It is not an ordinary bracelet though. Each one is assigned five points. If you bring twenty-five points onto one bracelet and scan it on the machine next to the exit, the gate will open for ten seconds. After the time has passed, the gate will close and the machine will be disabled until the location blows up, alongside anyone who was left inside.」
"Put twenty-five points together? That sounds rather easy," Kirishima commented. "Actually, that's sounds way too easy."
"Exactly," Yaoyorozu complied. "There's something more to this."
「As you may have guessed, this is not as simple as it seems. Points cannot be normally transferred over as is. There's only one way to unlock that feature—
—and it is to have that person dead.」
Everyone's eyes widened. Their first reaction was to dart their eyes over to their fellow classmates, plus Midoriya, who had still been concentrating on the video. However, it was evident that the appearance of Villain wasn't the only cause for his unpleasantness.
Uraraka covered her mouth with both of her hands. "N-No… This can't…"
"That means," Tokoyami stated, "that for the gate to open, four people with need to die first… Only six will be able to escape..."
"N-No, there has to be another way! There has to!" Mineta cried.
「As another note, bracelets can only be removed once the bracelet holder is dead or they have escaped past the exit point. They have been specially designed in accordance of one's heartbeat.
Now, many of you must have been trembling this option, or if I so dare, considering this option.」
"Like hell we are," Todoroki muttered.
「Do not fret for those who tremble in fear. I have provided another alternative for your problems.
When this video ends, the five smaller locked doors will open up, each leading to a different sector from the other, as I have mentioned. Each sector has an unspoken riddle you must discover without aide. If you do manage to solve the sector's mystery, something I'll call an EX Point will be granted to the one who finishes the mystery. It will be sent to the person's bracelet. It works similarly like a regular point, and you may use these points instead to escape. If you collect four out of the five possible EX points and bring them to the machine, the exit will also open for ten seconds.
As the EX Point works similarly to a regular point, they can also be transferred in the exact same way. The only difference is that the EX Points do not need to be on a single bracelet. They could be scattered in four different bracelets, and they would still open the exit.」
Uraraka sighed the moment that Villain finished his sentence. "Thank goodness…"
"That is, if he speaks the truth though…" Todoroki added.
「I should mention that there are two more functions to your bracelet.
The first involves the scanner beside each door. When you enter into a sector, it is important to scan your hand onto the machine. At that moment, you should insert one to five of your points. If you do not use the machine, the sensors placed on each door will assume that you have chosen to input one point.
I should mention that each machine can only hold up to five points. Upon reaching the threshold, the machine will disable any more entry by locking the door behind the final person.
Do not worry about your beloved points though. They shall return to you the moment you re-enter the main lobby. There is another way that points return to the bracelet though.
Again, this is if the bracelet holder dies.」
Iida shook his head, disregarding the final statement from Villain. "That means that five people, at most, can enter a sector at one time. If desperate, one person can ensure that they are in a sector alone," Iida pointed out.
「The final function can be discovered on the bracelet itself. There is a button on the top side of the bracelet surface. Pressing that button will reveal a key phrase for you. I will give you a brief moment to examine it.」
As Villain recommended, everyone in the room, even Bakugou, did as he said. Midoriya did the same, pressing a small, but wide button that had been resting on the top side of the bracelet. Upon his click, there had indeed to be words that panned from the right side to the left side of the wide screen on the bracelet. It had been some sort of rule though…
「As you may have noticed, this is your Personal Rule. I advise you to remember it very well, as everyone has their own unique rule.
I will inform you, that there is a consequence should you break that rule at anytime. Should the rule be broken, the bracelet is designed to insert a dose of a paralysis poison that locks up your nervous system for a short duration. However, a lethal poison will be injected shortly after, effectively killing in the matter of seconds. This makes the game a little more… interesting.
This consequence also applies should any other general rules be broken, although there are very few to begin with...」
Midoriya stared at the words that panned on the bracelet screen. If he broken that rule, he would be dead… To think that there was a poison resting right on his forearm, it was rather unbelievable.
Of course, this entire situation was unbelievable to begin with though.
「I do apologize for this long video, but the counter will finally begin soon. A reminder that you have twelve hours to escape this location.
Now, it is time. Let our game begin.
The Pro Heroes will not save you in time, so you must take matters into your own hands. Strike forth at the heart of despair. Stand tall, and refuse to give in to death's embrace. Do not hesitate, even for the slightest moment. That will be the difference between life or death.
With that, I sincerely wish everyone the best of luck. 」
The only noises that echoed in the room had been the dying static that concealed Villain's disappearance. It even took Midoriya a few seconds to realize that the television set had been displaying a timer; twelve hours counting down, as Villain had mention. Even without a ticking, its pure distress that the decreasing numbers brought on them had been real. He couldn't find the words to say anything, as he gazed upon his acquaintances' expressions. Shocked, surprised, disbelief, despair; they were all similar faces, but a thousand words could describe their silence. Everyone had been blankly watching the screen, as if they believed it to be some cruel joke.
No one was laughing though, because they knew this was as real as the blood in their veins.
Midoriya finally exhaled, as his lungs collapsed under the weight of the situation.
They had twelve hours to beat this mundane game that Villain called the game of life and death.
Izuku Midoriya gulped.

Bracelet System Simplified
No new information is given. This is merely a re-explanation of how the bracelet works.
Everyone is held to this game by a bracelet with five points assigned to each. To escape, someone must have twenty-five points, allowing the facility to open up its exit for ten seconds, before sealing off permanently. When someone dies, their bracelet becomes removable, and points transferring becomes available. Any tampering and attempt of removal with the bracelet will be met with no results. If an alive person does mange to somehow break the bracelet off, a paralysis and lethal poison will be injected without fault before its extraction. However, the case in doing so is highly unlikely.
However, killing someone is merely an option to gain points. If one can solve a sector's riddle, they are granted one EX point to their bracelet. Use four out of the five EX points on the exit to gain access for ten seconds before it closes indefinitely.
There are five sectors in the facility, excluding the main lobby. To enter a sector, a person may place one to five points into the system deposit to gain access. Entering without input with consider as a one point input. However, the machine will only accept five points before disabling anyone else to enter by locking the door behind the previous person. Points are returned once they return to the lobby, or die.
Alongside to the points, each bracelet has a rule they must follow. They can check the rule by clicking on the button on the bracelet. Breaking their rule will cause a paralysis dose to be injected, and shortly after, a lethal poison dose. Rules can still be discovered by others even when their holder is dead, for the sake of curiosity.
