Chapter 1: The Vision

Korra was deep in meditation, at least she was trying to be. Despite the massiveness of Air Temple Island, sound still managed to travel long distances. And even in the most secluded room of the temple, Korra could hear the yelling of the children outside. Even if Jinora could hardly be considered a child anymore, she still reveled in bossing around Ikki and Meelo. With the distraction to noisy to concentrate, Korra sighed and released her focus completely. A smile found its way onto her lips instead as she sat on the mat and listened closely, smiling. There had been to many moments in the past years where Korra thought she would lose her family, but despite all odds they always seemed to pull through. Now, the Avatar sought some refuge in the belief that the children could take better care of themselves, now more then ever.

"Knock, knock,"

Blinking as she turned from her thoughts, Korra smiled at the limber frame leaning in the doorway. Asami looked snazzy as usual, in her favorite color of crimson. But because of the summer heat, she had her arms and collar exposed in a tank top. Her ruby lips were quirked slightly to one side as she rested her weight against the doorframe, "are you going to invite me in?"

"Not like I need to, you practically live here," Korra blew herself to her feet, the breeze brushing Asami's raven hair back behind her shoulders as the Avatar embraced the woman warmly. Asami gladly accepted the notion, gently pressing her lips to Korra's forehead as they left the small meditation room,

"You've been down here all day." Asami complained lightly, knitting her fine brows together as she gently bumped against Korra's shoulder, "Pema told me to come down and fetch you for lunch. She doesn't want the Avatar feasting on nothing but the universe today,"

Korra laughed at the jab at Tenzin's 'fasting' story as she placed both hands on her hips,

"I suppose not. But who could resist Pema's hot and spicy rolls? I'm sure the smell would be enough to convince me to ditch the universe for a real meal,"

Korra laughed again as she wrapped her fingers with Asami's, swinging their arms back and forth as the pair walked down the hallway. Falling into a relationship with the woman engineer had been both the best and the worst idea Korra ever had. The woman was the devil, but Korra couldn't seem to find enough of it. Their trip to the spirit world had been…eye opening, for the both of them. And things weren't the same when they returned. Sure, it caused tension between the team for a few weeks, but eventually everything fell back into place. But with this in her mind, Korra could still feel the unease brewing in the pit of her stomach. She knew dread when she felt it, ever since that first Equalist rally all those years ago. And this…whatever she was trying to focus on, was only getting stronger by the day. As she thought about it, Korra felt the sudden need to stop as she fell against the wall, wincing in discomfort as Asami turned around in alarm.

"Korra?"

"I'm fine," the Avatar held up a hand as she knotted her other hand into the fabric of her shirt, pursing her lips, "just that feeling again."

"Something's wrong?"

"Yes. But…" Korra relaxed slightly as the feeling vanished, and she was once again able to stand fully, "it's gone now,"

"Are you sure you're ok? Maybe we should write to Katara, this thing may not be what you think it is…"

"It's not medical, Asami. That I know for sure." Shaking off the feeling, Korra fell back into step with her girlfriend, "it's been getting stronger and stronger for weeks. I tried focusing on it today in meditation, but I got…erm…distracted." Korra felt the smile return to her face as she turned to Asami, "what are the kids doing up there anyway?"

"A heated match of Airball between Jinora and Ikki. Meelo was the referee,"

"Well that explains it," Korra mumbled, taking to the stairs. Suddenly though, the sense of discomfort hit her again as she stumbled, falling back into Asami's grip as she looked to the wood of the stairway in panic. Vision's were passing though her eyes, and toying with her senses.

She was on a boat, somewhere in the middle of the ocean. There were two shadows moving about, two people. They were struggling to control the sail as their tiny craft was tossed by the open waters. Rain made seeing difficult as the boat lurched, only to steady itself as the water on the opposite side was forcefully hoisted up to even the descent. There was a yelp as lightning crashed down into the wave beside them, as Korra lost her balance and fell overboard into the dark.

Korra snapped back to her body with a gasp as she blinked, focusing on her girlfriend's grip on her arm as she lifted herself as shook her head, "woah,"

"What was that?" Asami looked paler then usual as Korra frowned deeply,

"Something is coming. And whatever it is the spirits are trying to warn me about it. I need to phone Lin right away,"

"Best idea you've had today," Asami breathed, following Korra as she practically flew up the steps. She was almost to Tenzin's office when the door opened, revealing a very wide eyed chief of police. Skidding to a stop as to not run into the woman, Korra wobbled in her place as Lin lifted a fine brow,

"Korra,"

"Lin, hi," flushing deeply in embarrassment as Lin arched her brow even higher, Korra exhaled deeply as she slumped her shoulders, "Tenzin invited you over to dinner?"

"Yes he did. Does this disappoint you?"

Lin leaned in Dangerously close to Korra as she blinked in half panic, only to remember her mission and shake off the uncomfortable feeling of losing her personal space.

"No, no of course not! I was just about to phone you, actually."

As Lin leaned back to her usual stiff posture, Asami finally managed to catch up with Korra, panting heavily as she waved a hand to the chief of police, leaning against the nearby wall to catch her breath. Turning her full attention back to Lin, Korra sighed and ran a hand through her hair,

"I had a vision,"

The tense mood only seemed to grow as Lin's eyes flickered. The last time Korra had a vision, someone had tried to assassinate the President. Despite their helpful nature, vision's almost always brought forth bad news,

"When?"

"Just now, while I was coming upstairs. I've been having feelings of dread and discomfort for weeks now, but this is the only time I've actually been able to see anything,"

"And…what did you see? Is something threatening the city?"

"No, at least…not that I could see," Korra knitted her brows as she thought back on what she saw. It wasn't malicious, at least it didn't seem to be. It almost felt more like a distress call. "there was a boat in a storm with two people on it. I think one of them fell into the water,"

"Hmm, there was a storm a few nights ago not far from here. But…no casualties were reported."

"Do you think this was the same storm?" Asami still sounded a bit out of breath as she grabbed Korra around the waist, squeezing the Avatar possessively as the other woman thought,

"Could be. The ship looked…small, it was more like a raft. Not big enough for any sort of organized attack. I don't know what it means. But whatever it was, the spirits don't like it."

"And neither do I," Lin admitted lowly, grabbing the handheld radio which hung at her hip, "I'll call my harbor patrol team and have them double the search perimeter. If anything, or anyone unusual comes into Republic City we'll know about it."

"Thanks Lin,"

"I think for now we keep this on the down low," Lin shook her head slightly as she tapped her radio with a finger, "what with Bolin and Opal getting married soon I don't think we need to spoil the good mood just yet. At least not until we know for sure if your vision is accurate."

"I think you're right." Korra nodded to Lin as the police chief retreated into the office and closed the door to make her call. Meanwhile, Korra turned back to her girlfriend as Asami snorted,

"Well. I've officially failed in retrieving you for lunch,"

"Pema is probably cooking up a heaping plate for you right now, and you won't get to leave the table till you finish all of it," Korra retorted, making fun of Asami's somewhat small appetite as the raven-haired woman laughed and kissed Korra's ear,

"No worries, Korra. That woman knows how to keep my strength up," Asami made sure her last phrase was husky as Korra blushed a deep crimson red, falling backwards as she was shoved against the wall, only to watch as her girlfriend darted around the corner yelling, "race ya!"

Realizing she had been horribly played, Korra smirked and summoned an airball under her feet as she chased after the woman engineer, her world of worry forgotten for the time being as they headed for lunch.

A/N: Hello all! Rose here. I hope you enjoyed the first chapter of my new LoK story Duality. I usually don't go through and hard-core edit my mistakes so if there are any grammatical or spelling errors my apologies. I just finished up the entire LoK series and I was inspired to write this. Currently its been a year or two since the end of Season 4, though that may change in the future, I'm not sure yet. And yes, Korrasami is indeed a thing in this story, and it will be staying a thing so please don't complain about it. I'll try and include as many characters as I can into this so we get to see everybody. Anyway, till my next chapter. Cheers!
