It was just like an other day for Annabeth Chase, a college student in New Rome, California and fairly long term girlfriend of Percy Jackson. Little to her knowledge that it was going to become one of the most important days in her life. You know, other than the time she helped save Olympus and the entire world from Kronos. Or the time she helped save Olympus and the entire world from Gaea. Or the actual 24 hour day she spent holding up the sky. But, nevertheless, a pretty important day.
Every Wednesday she and Percy would go to this small hole-in-the-wall cafe in the middle of New Rome for a nice quiet lunch to chat. But this particular Wednesday, as she ate her salad and he wolfed down his cheeseburger, it was very quiet. Unusually quiet.
She's known Percy for 8 years dated him for maybe half of that, and never has he been able to contain silence and composure like this, ever. His gods damned nose bleed almost caused the end of the world and the death of both of them along with all their friends and all of Olympus and oh, yeah, all of humanity.
Something was up.
But at the second she was going to ask what, he got up and said, "I need some more ketchup for my fries,' but with a very noticeable tremor in his voice.
But hey, it's not the first time he's been afraid of an inanimate object. Don't ask. So, she let it slide. This was just Percy. If she hadn't mentioned before, he almost managed to end all life on Earth with a nosebleed.
When he walked back, he was throwing an apple up and down with sign of any ketchup.
"Um, Seaweed Brain, hate to break it to you, but you picked out the wrong red fruit slash vegetable," I smiled sarcastically at him at put my hands up as if in question.
All I got in response was a half-hearted smirk.
Then, out of nowhere, he threw the apple at me. And I stared at it. It was red and shiny, hardly a scuff on it at all. My bewilderment made me not realize Percy had gotten down on one knee and was holding a black velvet box with a simple silver band with small accents all around it.
"Annabeth Chase. Wise girl. Together, we got back the lightning bolt. Survived the sea of monsters. Unlocked the titan's curse. Found our way through the labyrinth and fought in the battle after. We found the last olympian and also saved olympus. You found the lost hero. Love- and are smarter than- the son of Neptune. Followed and conquered the mark. Found your way out of Tartarus and are the blood of Olympus. You're nobody's sidekick, but would you be my wife?" he asked a few tears starting to dot his eyelids.
"Yes, Percy Jackson, yes. I will," he stood up and placed the simple, yet perfect ring on my finger. After what seemed like ages but was only a few seconds of looking right into each other's eyes, their lips connected in a searing kiss.
"I will love you until the day I die," he mumbled into her mouth. As I to touched our foreheads together, I mumbled back "As will I."
This is just a little one shot I thought of on how Percy would propose to Annabeth. My inspiration for his speech comes from an edit thedemigods made on instagram.
