The Burden of Brilliance
I don't think I need to tell you that Death Note belongs to it's creators. Obviously I didn't create Nate River, Light Yagami, Miheal Keehl or Lawliet Ryuzaki.
It's dark. Is it supposed to be? What time is it?
The albino rolls over to stare at his clock. It's analog, but glows so he can both check the time in the dark and keep his mind active. Digital clocks are so boring; they make it much too easy for 'regular people'. No wonder they're just regular…
The clock reads 4:21 and judging from the light, it must be AM, Nate deduces. It's yet another awakening much too early for humans. When Nate wakes so early, he often contemplates if his idea to join forces with Mihael was such a good idea. He wonders if he'll be betrayed to Kira by his so-called "ally".
But that's crazy, Nate thinks. Because he and Mihael share the same goal: to surpass L and take down Kira.
What's this title "Kira"? Some nickname a power-obsessed psychopath serial killer gave himself? It's not worth acknowledging. No, Nate decides now that from now on he'll use only real names. From now on he'll just say Light Yagami.
There's no doubt to it, either. L had suspected Light and Misa. It makes all too much sense that they be working together as two 'Kiras'. It's the only vaguely plausible explanation to the actions and workings of this 'god of a new world'.
New world, my ass, Nate swears mentally. Damnit, I'm running out of options. If we don't find something soon, Light Yagami will have won. Game over.
Nate's scared, he admits it to himself. But surely if he showed the fellow SPK members his weakness they would fall into a panic. If the smartest person in the Academy cant outsmart Yagami, who can?
As conceited as it sounds, Nate continues mentally, it's all too true. I'm the smartest person here. Perhaps anywhere, now that L's gone…
A yawn overcomes the small boy as he stares at his clock again. 4:33AM. I really must be getting back to sleep, the albino sighs. A good night's sleep is the key to success, after all.
Nate's eyes close slowly as one last thought drifts through his mind:
I will get you; Light Yagami. Just you wait.
