Jesse, James, and Meowth were excited. They had managed to catch a really powerful Pokemon and hand it in to the boss. Of course, they wouldn't tell him that the twerp had knocked it out first.
That would remain their little secret.
They were so happy, that they decided to treat themselves to lunch.
"Do you think the boss will give us a promotion?", asked James, his mouth full of spaghetti.
"Of course he will! He's the boss! Plus, we earned it!",replied Meowth.
"Maybe he'll throw in a fabulous bonus check!", Jesse chipped in.
"What would you buy with your money, Jess?", asked James.
"I would buy a fabulous new dress, plus some great treats for my pokemon!", she replied, with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes.
"I think I'd buy a new case for my bottle cap collection.", said James thoughtfully.
They both looked at Meowth.
"What would you buy?", they both asked at the same time.
"Nothing. I'd save my money for a rainy day.", replied Meowth.
They both looked shocked.
"Isn't there something you would want?", asked James.
"To be honest, all I need is you guys. You guys are like family to me, and you make me happy.", Meowth said with a grin on his face.
"Meowth, that's the sweetest thing you ever said to me!", Jesse exclaimed, tears of happiness forming in her eyes.
"We love you too Meowth!", James said practically breaking down.
At that moment Wobbufet broke out of his pokeball.
"Wob, wobuffet!", he said crying as well.
They all hugged one another, and for a long time before Jesse broke a part from the group.
"Well, let's not just stand here! Let's get the show on the road and get this Pokemon to the boss!", she exclaimed, trying to look serious, but a hint of a smile made its way to her face.
They all stood and made their way to the headquarters to meet the boss.
"Congratulations Jesse and James. You have done me a great service. Too bad I have to kill you now. I will also be taking your Pokemon."
Unnoticed by them, Cassidy had made her way behind the two, and stole all their pokeballs."
"What?! You can't do this to us!", shouted Jesse.
"I can and I will. Persian, use fury swipes."
Meowth jumped in front of them and took the blow. He struggled to stand.
Jesse grabbed him with one hand and used the other to grab James' hand. She pushed through the other Team Rocket members and was out the door in a second.
Meowth was astonished. He had never seen her run so fast.
They burst out the door and were running into the woods when Jesse tripped over a stump.
She saw a mush and got an idea.
Reaching in her pocket, she fished out an empty pokeball.
"Meowth, I want you to get inside the pokeball. I fear that this is the only way to save you."
Meowth wanted to protest, but one look in Jesse's eyes, and he knew there was no point in arguing. He did as she said and got into the pokeball.
Jesse hid the still moving pokeball underneath a bush, and covered it with leaves. Then, she stood to protect the only family she'd ever known.
Unbeknownst to Jesse and James, Meowth had popped out of the pokeball, just in time to see Giovanni and the other Team Rocket members surround Jesse and James.
Tears streamed down his face as he watched the only people who ever loved him die trying to save his life.
The last conscious thought he had was that he was glad he'd told them he loved them.
