Pairings- hints of a past relationship of Balthier X Reddas, and hints of Balthier X Vaan

Well I wrote this right after I saw Reddas die... I was so sad, and well this is just a look into what Balthier would have felt after the final battles with his father...and watching Reddas die... Another sad thing... I loved the crazy father... Enjoy! Drabble worthy!!! Whoosh!

To say their friendship was short lived or frivolous. They never should have met, or run away together. All those things would have been a disservice to the memory of Reddas, a near and dear friend to another sky pirate/ex judge Balthier. Watching his friend die, broke his heart, bringing the memories he had long since buried to come forth.

When the brunette had watched his father die, he found something akin to hope. Hope that his father was in a better place, would have the chance for a better life the next time he was born into the world. For Reddas it was an empty silence. The ever curious Vaan had even noticed, his loud mouth voicing the question the rest of his companions urged to say to him. "Are you okay?" His answer was a short nod of the head, and a show of his teeth. Everyone had seen through the disguise.

After the period of numbness came the dreams. Nightmares really for the man. He would toss and turn all night relieving the time when the two were closer than friends. Young men in love, finding hope, dreams, and a future within the other. Now if one asked the sky pirate this, he would laugh in that person's face, telling him that they were fools.

Fools learned the hard way. A fool was what he once was. A fool was what he had become again. Looking over, Balthier felt a smile come to his face, Vaan was the person who he held those things he called frivolous. Vaan was the person who could make it all better.

It was in this young boy, that Balthier thought he could go on living if not for himself, then for the ghostly image of Reddas. The image that would always be imprinted in his mind, never leaving, never wavering. A ghost is what one of the greatest men of their time had become.

For those who said their relationship was frivolous, or short lived. For those who said they should never have met, or left their positions of power together in the hopes of love. Those people are the ones that are fools. Fools who want nothing more than to dominate the people they cannot have. For once in his life, Balthier was proud to say he was not that. That he had tasted it, even seen the effects on his own flesh and blood.

A/N: Review plz... Comments make the heart grow fonder...

Balthier was glad to have a group of people who cared and wanted him. And it was in those feelings that he felt the most at home, like he did all those years ago. And this fool could feel the ghost of another just like him, smile down proud.
