"Ames, I know we have to tell the squad that you are pregnant, but it has to be good." Jake said as they got ready for work on a sunny Monday morning.
"Okay, do you have any ideas babe?" She asked as she finished brushing her hair.
"What if we did a special version of the Jimmy Jab games and whoever wins gets to know the secret and then tell everyone else?" Jake suggested.
"Oh that would be awesome! Everyone would love that. We can be the judges since we already know. Captain won't want to play, so what if we just go ahead and tell him before we play, that way he'll let us do the Jimmy Jabs?" Amy added.
"Perfect!" Jake said as he poured their coffee into their travel mugs.
"This is going to be great. Is it weird that I kind of hope Charles wins? He would so ecstatic." Amy said.
"He would love to be the one to tell the rest of them, that's for sure." Jake replied as they headed out the door.
*Twenty Minutes Later at the Precinct*
Jake and Amy were surprised to find that they were the first ones other than Holt to get to the precinct that morning, so they decided to take advantage of this opportunity. Jake knocked on Holt's open door.
"Sir, could we talk to you for a minute?" He asked, suddenly nervous.
"Of course, come in." Holt replied, suspiciously.
"Captain we're going to keep this short and sweet. I am pregnant." Amy smiled and Holt's lips turned up just enough for them to see it.
"Congratulations to you both." He replied.
"We know this is a bit much, but we were hoping that we could host a Jimmy Jabs game and the person who wins gets to tell the squad. We could even separate the challenges into different days. Like one a day for a few days, but I don't know how well we could keep the secret from Boyle then." Jake rambled and Amy put her hand on his arm to slow him down.
"Normally I wouldn't allow it, however, since I will be here to supervise, I see no problem with this and I think I will stick having my detectives and my uniformed Sergeant skipping work for one day, instead of multiple." He replied.
"Captain, thank you so much!" Amy smiled.
"You're welcome. Until this morning's briefing I'd like you two to act normal. We will announce the contest then, clear?"
"Yes sir."
"Got it."
The couple went to their desks and pretended to work until the briefing. Jake was antsy but he blamed it on all the sugar in his coffee, thankfully Charles accepted that answer when he questioned him. Amy rushed through her briefing with the uniformed officers so that the detectives could have theirs and the Jimmy Jabs could begin. When Holt saw that briefing room was cleared, he declared that they would begin the day's briefing in five minutes sharp. He also made a point to ask Amy to join them, so the others wouldn't question her presence later. Exactly five minutes later Holt walked into the briefing room.
"Today, there will be a special version of the Jimmy Jabs. Jake and Amy will explain exactly what is going to take place." Holt said as Jake and Amy walked up to the front of the room.
"Alright, so this isn't like any other Jimmy Jab game. There is a secret which Amy, Holt and I know. The winner of the eighth Jimmy Jab games will learn this secret and then proceed to tell the rest of you. We will play as usual, so let's light the ceremonial bagel, shall we?" Jake explained and they all cheered happy to be doing anything but paperwork, but also happy to play another round of Jimmy Jabs. While they made their way to the squad room Jake went to grab a bagel from the breakroom, Hitchcock grabbed the flask from his desk and Scully went to stand off to the side so he could come in singing "Jimmy Jabs" after the bagel was lit and tossed into the trash can. Jake poured the alcohol on the bagel and pulled out his lighter. He lit the bagel and let it burn for a few seconds before dropping it into the trash can, Scully sang, and they all cheered.
Jake, Amy and Holt set up the first task. They found food in the fridge that had to be at least a month old, split it equally into piles on the tables in the briefing room, covered it with a throw-away table cloth and let the squad in to take their seats. They all sat down, and Jake ripped the tablecloth away after explaining to exactly how the games worked even though everyone already knew. He wanted to make sure they remembered. Charles took about six bites before giving in.
"I can't do this. It's disgusting." He whined and disqualified himself.
"Charles is out. Keep eating to your heart's content." Jake said and Hitchcock got sick from eating too fast which disqualified him from the rest of the games.
"Yeah you just made that worse." He said.
"Alright, that's two out, moving onto the next challenge!" Amy declared.
They made their ways to the starting line of the bomb squad suit run. They were all required to wear the bulky protective gear while running a very specific route through the precinct. Scully quickly passed out due to over exertion before he even finished putting the gear on. The team still raced on. Rosa took first and Gina was a close second meaning Terry was last. However, since Scully went down as they were preparing for this challenge, Terry got to continue playing.
"Alright, only two more challenges left. Next up is the undercover wars. Whoever talks to the most police officers and goes unnoticed the most wins. Terry you go first.
Terry took his turn but was recognized by everyone who came in contact with quickly. He was a very hard man to forget. His height and muscle stature made him easily recognizable. He returned and sat in the breakroom with the others. Rosa went next. She made it through three people before being recognized. Gina went last and made it through an astonishing eight people before being recognized.
"Wow. I am very shocked." Holt commented.
"Why? Gossip is my area, and no one will take that from me. NO ONE!" Gina shouted. Holt nodded. She did have a point.
"Alright Gina, come onto the roof and we'll tell you and then you can tell them." Jake replied. Jake and Amy took her onto the roof and told her while Holt made sure none of the others cheated.
"Okay, what could you two possibly know that I don't?" Gina asked.
"I'm pregnant." Amy said and watched as Gina's face lit up. They walked back inside, and Gina smiled.
"Listen up, I have just been informed the Jake has knocked Amy up." Gina yelled, happily. Charles squealed hugged Jake and Amy. Terry congratulated them and hugged them. Rosa smiled and hugged them both, without complaining. They even accepted hugs from Scully and Hitchcock. Amy then pulled out sonogram pictures for them to look at.
"Finally, I can put my copy out on my desk, next to our wedding photo." Jake proclaimed and pulled out a framed sonogram and placed it next to his framed picture of him and Amy on their wedding day. Amy walked over and smiled.
"It's perfect." She leaned up and kissed him softly as he nodded.
